Which engine is in the boat?

If you can snap a pic of the motor we should be able to tell you what it is. Depending on the year it will likely either say Gt40, Excalibur or ZR6 on the shroud.

if it's a GT-40 or standard 5.7 Chevy you should be looking at an Acme 422. That is the sweetheart for gear reduction 5.8-5.7 applications.

If it's a 196 it would be an 03' or later, so no chance it's a Ford. Probably came with or has a 422 4 Blade now, you could try a 470 3 Blade, never run one but heard the 3 blade will give you a slightly better wake and should increase your WOT RPM's and Speed very slightly. Call Acme they should be able to provide performance data.

Like Quinner said, the 196 moniker wasnt used until 2003, at which point Excal and ZR6 were the engine choices. Or the 275hp 5.0L I suppose. Many people improperly use the "196" reference on earlier boats though, so you better confirm what you have.

If the Excal, I'd still probably stick with the 422. Ive tried the 612 and a 470 with a touch more cup (.130 vs. .105) on that combo and it performs well, but the regular 470 will rev 200rpm higher than the 422... putting you in the 5100-5200rpm range. The 422 would keep you in the 4900-5000rpm zone. Both work great, holeshot is equal and the 3-blade is about 1/4mph faster up top- so theyre very comparable. We did not notice any wake changes- I think Quinner would have been referring to rooster and table "firmness" rather than actual wake shape, which a prop cant really influence.

Some more info. The boat is an 03 with 330 Excalibur. We have lost our course on our lake . We are skiing at 36 mph @ 36 off We ski 2 1/2 miles each pull. So no need for more hole shot and would rather not run more RPM.
The boat has a 4 blade on it, but it's the second owner so I don't know if its the stock prop. Just would like info on a 3 blade CNC or a 4 blade It sounds like Acme is the stock prop????? I am open to Acme or OJ.

Acme 422, I need one too, based on the discussion I have been having with Acme and Zach at N3 for my 1998 SN.

Hijack on - Anybody have any opinions for my 1998 SN with carbed 5.8HO motor (less common motor for this boat). Top RPM is 5k.

I have some over stock 668 props at the shop cheap that will make you spin a few less rpms. Not perfect for all out performance but if you can save some cash and get a slight reduction in rpms maybe that's what you are looking for??? The 668 is identical to a 422 with just slightly more cup. Probably a 100-150 rpm reduction in WOT rpm. Mike, what prop is on that thing that it is spinning 5k?? Sorry If I forgot haha. We tossed a 668 on a Non ho ski 176' and it spun it 4600WOT. Not quite the honey the 422 is but still a respectable player VS an OJ in my opinion. (clearly as you all know the 176' is much smaller hull and probably will pull a few 100 rpm over a TSC.

                        422.

GT40 = HO 351w... same long block as your carbed motor.

My carbed is rated max 5k RPM, it has never seen above 4500 with the current OJ 4 blade. One of the tips of my OJ is missing a little chunk. It runs surprisingly smooth for not having a perfect prop. I am super particular when it comes to prop vibration, it has a tiny bit but I have felt worse from brand new props and much worse from reworked props.

On the hunt for a 422, will drop the bucks in the spring but I am spending on interior right now.
