    Docking light problem

I have a 2004 SV211 Team Edition. The docking lights didn't work when purchased and one of them was half filled with water.

I drained the water out and let it dry. Ordered a new bulb, etc. Took it apart and cleaned everything I could.

But now I can't seem to get power to the bulb.

I can turn on the courtesy lights and the interior lights come on. If I turn on the nav lights, the front nav light turns on. But when I turn both on (which is what I *think* I would need for docking to work) then the little indicator lights on the switch pod (it has the digital pad not a key) get dim, but there is 0V on the wires.

The bulb holder looked corroded, so we actually cliped it off to eliminate that, but the bare wires show the same result.

It seems that something is shorted, but I can't tell what. None of the pushbutton fuses under the dash are popped out. The wiring diagram doesn't really help, and I haven't yet pulled all the wires to see where it runs.

Any clues as to what to check next? Is there some relay that turns on the docking lights when both nav and courtesy lights are on? Is there some other function involved in turning on the docking lights?

I think you have to hold down the nav light button for a second or two to turn on the docking lights.

I think Mark is correct. From section 4-7 of the manual: http://www.planetnautique.com/Correc...AirManual2.pdf

      Courtesy / Docking Lights
A quick press and release of this button turns on the courtesy lights,
and the indicator light for this button will illuminate. A press and
slight hold turns on the indicator light and the docking lights. Both
the courtesy and docking lights can be turned on at the same time,
but only if the courtesy lights are turned on first.
      NOTICE
If either or both of the two light functions are on, the indicator
light will illuminate and a press and release will turn off any of
      the lights that are on.

Ya I couldn't remember if it was nav or courtesy.

So is there some relay in there that I should check? It seems that the courtesy lights work, but when I try to get the nav lights *AND* the courtesy lights at the same time things get dim (the lights on the keypad). So i am thinking there may be a short in a relay or something that is trying to turn on the docking lights.

The wiring diagrams on this site for a 2004 don't really show it, so I am not sure what to trace to make sure it is working.

I'll go poke at it again this weekend and see if the press and hold gets me something different. I think I was just pressing courtesy and then pressing nav.
