I suppose the title says it all. I have an '07 SAN and I'd like to retrofit it with the new Nautique Surf System (NSS). From what I understand the NSS works with the Nautique LINC System on the newer SANs, but can it also work with my older SAN? Anyone out there have any suggestions? Are there other products out there that will give me a similar result an eliminate the need for fat sacks?

That's what I feared. Hopefully someone will come up with an aftermarket solution for those of us without the LINC system. I'm certainly in no position to replace my boat, so that's my only hope. Frankly, I wonder if I could get the same result by installing something like the Volvo Trim System http://www.foreandaftmarine.com/VO-QL3841717.htm to extend outward and down from the transom.
I have to give CorrectCraft props for finding a way to make my boat obsolete... how else could they sell new boats?

I'm sure once it's out and people get a look at how it works there will be some attempts to duplicate it. It only took the BU guys about a weekend to start stuffing things under their platforms. I'm most curious about how much it moves from one adjustment to the next.

pretty sure the Linc 2.0 requirement comes from the "risk" people. Somebody will come up with an aftermarket system for the older boats, need an electric ram or hydraulic, some SS plates and a fiberglass cover. A momentary switch is needed to energize the system/deploy the "plates or fins."

I hate to mention this, but the NSS does not eliminate sacing out the boat. The system delays the convergence of the wake to allow one side to build up. That doesn't mean you don't weight the boat. Instead you weight the boat equally (actually more weight because both sides are full) and then you select the side with the Linc. I think they will make mods for Linc 1.0 users but that's it. The actual system is pretty straight forward from an engineering standpoint but you really need a system like the link that can integrate speed into the equation.
I think the volvo-penta idea is fairly legit. I think it would do many of the same things that the NSS does. I might try and install them next year. -Marc

The more I look at pictures of the Wave Plate compoent of the NSS, the more I wonder why I couldn't use it on my '07 SAN 220. Wouldn't I just need a mechanism to activate the actuator? I may not get refined control beyond off/on, but it seems fairly straightforward. Can someone smarter than me explain why this would/wouldn't work?

The need for the Link 2.0 is probably partly because they need to do something because of the Surfgate and it's easiest to just work with the curent programming. The need for software may mean its doing more than we realize. I remember hearing the Surfgate made the boat difficult to turn around, the Link may be pulling it in for turns, that's why it needs to be looked at to figure out what it does and when. I'm betting there is more to it than just that little plate moving out an inch.

I actually think it is very straight forward. I also believe that if the hull shape is the same on the '07 as it is on the 12/13 models, then it would be very easy to install. You could use a simple actuator like a ballast switch to open and close each side. With that said, the automation coupled with the simplicity of the system is what makes the NSS so beautiful. The NSS deploys and retracts at certain speeds/settings. With a skilled driver... the automation wouldn't be missed. For others, it might be completely unacceptable to not have. (Kind of like doing a slalom run without perfect pass.) JMHO. -Marc

i am thinking/guessing that controls parts from volvo penta ql system could drive the nss stuff bolted to the hull. notice that pics' show you can have 2 in each corner, which i think i read somewhere can be driven by one control unit.Attached Files

I know I plan to do some experimenting this summer. My first attempt will bolt onto the swim deck, but if that works...I think the Volvo-Penta option might be easiest "canned" solution. -Marc
