    Trailer Help

I bought a 2007 206 that did not have a trailer. I then bought a trailer from a 2007 196 that I thought I could modify to fit. The trailer is a wishbone style witht the front crash pads and a "V-block" between the bunks and the crash pads. I moved the V block forward to accomodate the increased length and deeper bow of the 206. I then replaced the V block with a keel roller becuase the bow eye would get hung up on the V Block. Big mistake as I damaged the keel on the roller Monday. I am at a loss. Any ideas short of scrapping the whole trailer and popping for a new one? Any advise or experience you have would be helpfull. I made the mistake of speding big on the boat and trying to save a few buck on the trailer.

    Thanks

My old 210 had a wishbone trailer and the crash pads. There were no v pads at all. I would just remove that piece all together. You can post a pic and we can have an exact idea on what you are talking about.

Were you trying to "drive" boat onto trailer? I think I would have "sunk" the trailer and got the boat on then up on shore to check and see where you have a clearance problem. It sounds like your trailer bunks are too low, allowing the bottom of fins, shaft, prop, rudder to touch trailer axle or cross member. If the trailer bunks supports are welded into place you have two choices, cut off and redo with proper height bunk supports or go online and buy the bolt-on fully adjustible style that you can raise or lower the entire bunk to fit your boat's bottom. Note most inboard or v-drive boat trailers have cross members that are formed/bent down in the middle to allow for clearance.....if you are using a standard stern drive or outboard v-hull boat trailer is reason why you will need to modify the bunk heights and or cross member shape.......are you a DIY? Makes a difference on how much it will cost.

Here are some pics of my current set up and also the V-block that I removed. The keel roller was a bad idea. I think the keel got caught between the pieces of the roller and trailer was in the water a little too deep.

Why did you remove the crash pads from the trailer? I dont think the wishbone design will load properly with a bow roller. Is it possible to add the crash pads back? I did have a prestige trailer that had a winch with a crash pad, it worked well, but still needed a turn-buckle to stop the porpoising on the trailer.

My 206 trailer is a multi bunk set up, and to be honest - I'd take a ramlin style wishbone over what I've got now.

I did not removed the crash pads, I removed the V Block. I was having problems with the bow eye getting hung up on the V block. As it turns out, the V block was not "square" and that may have been the problem. I discovered this after I took it off. I now realize that I NEED a V block or a turn-buckle to keep things from shifting. Where can I get a turn-buckel?

Is there any rule of thumb on what angel the turn-buckel should be at? I seem to have problems with vertical movement along with the boat shifting forward. Due to the winch, I can only get a turn-buckel mount in an almost vertical or almost horizontal position.

Sorry, misinterpretation on my part. The turn-buckles on my trailers have been close to a 45 degree angle, they were attached just a few inches above the base of the bow post on trailer.

What is a good size? I am thinking of the 1/2" thread rated for 2,000 lbs. Any suggestions?

Any tips on how to attach the turnbuckel to the bow eye? It seems like the turnbuckel opening from the pin the the casting is almost an inch and the diameter of the bow eye is only 3/8". I don't the turn buckel to slam into the boat.
