so i have an 05 tandem ram-lin with drum brakes. in march i had the hubs turned, replaced all the races, bearings, seals. i got to the marina the other day to notice one of my dust caps was missing. so i put on the spare. after getting home the green grease is totally grey from shredded inner bearing. not sure why this happened. the previous time out the same wheel was locked up when leaving the house. i popped into reverse a bit and it broke free. so the time the dust cap fell off would be the following week. the shop is looking at everything right now. anyway, my question is about brand. is there a particular bearing/race/seal brand that is actually better than any other? the seal is intact still.

I've always used Timken. They seem to be the better brand out there. When it comes to my expensive boat, and what transports it or lifts it, I try not to budget shop. (Although with no raise in 4 plus years, that is difficult to do) I would not think the price diff is that much with bearings...

i use grease. i f'n hate oil bath. had so many blow out on me. anyways, my shop suggested it may be cheaper to just get all new hubs already packed(not including filling the hub) rather than break down, clean, buy new parts, and reinstall said parts. even though it was only one wheel i'm kinda sketched out now so im redoing all the internals. is there a negative to buying the pre packed ones? any suggested brand?

thanks. i was just looking at the tie down galvanized hub. i think that'll be the best way to go for brackish. are tie down's bearings made in china? either way i'm really looking for bearings and races with tight quality control. just like i prefer bones swiss on my skateboards over reds.

i just swung by the shop to check on the progress. almost finished. in short, i did not tighten the castle nut quite enough. and FYI on recovering the rear 3 hatches. i was quoted 400 for full on marine vinyl, no graphics. i was also told the graphics were not marine vinyl.
