    Impeller Replacement

Does it matter how you install a new impeller? I had to bend the tips of the top few to fit it in the housing. This is a new impeller - not a used one that has been set. Just want to be certain before I start the engine and find out the hard way.....

Nope. It turns itself the right way as soon as you start it.

Yes it can matter. If you do it the wrong direction it can actually create a suction type lock. My parents naighbors old boat this happened to. That was a Malibu, however they got on the lake and ran it full bore and it did not take long to overheat.

That is because they removed the pump, and put it back on in reverse. The actual neoprene impeller goes the way the engine spins it. Think about it.

Wakeslayer is right... it doesn't matter which way you put the impeller in the pump... I always put a little film of grease on the fins to help slide it in.
