Air Jeff, sounds like the $250 must be parts & labor. OF

I just ordered from Mid Ohio and they gave the kit to me for $125+shipping!
The other price I got was parts only. Now if I can just save up enough for a heater...I think the seasons about done here though, temps have been in the 40's.
I'll let you guys know how the install goes and if I can get my hands on a digital camera I'll take some pics.

Did I get the wrong ones or is this what they send? Here are a couple pics:

What type of gauge failure is everyone experiencing? I have a 2001 Super Air and both the tach and speedo gauges power on but the displays do not fully illuminate and therefore I can not make out the rpms, hours, or speed. Am I experiencing the typical problem?

Ok after brewing for the past year about these POS digital gauges, I am finally ready to spend the money and have the gauges installed. What I was wondering how the new gauges look after installed. Does anyone have a picture of the dash with the new gauges?

I have a '01 Ski Nautique that I installed the "new" analog faria guages on a few months ago after my third set of digital POS's. I will snap a few pics tonight and post. The installation wasn't all that bad, but I have PP which made it a ton easier.

Instead of Faria you might want to try Gaffrig by Lavorsi Marine. These guages are used by most of the offshore race boats and are known for their accuracy. I also heard that Autometer has a new line of marine guages out.

Gaffrig are good gauges. I am replacing all of my gauges in my 196 SNCB with the new VDO Ocean liner gauges. They are a true marine gauge with double lenses and are sealed unlike alot of other marine gauges and will not fog up. They have changeable trim rings in 10 different colors and come in either white or black faces. You can add audible alarms and an engine management system (not that I would). Each gauge also has a red warning light on the face as well. The new VDO's are more popular on big yachts but they do make a quality product.Originally posted by ffmedic74Instead of Faria you might want to try Gaffrig by Lavorsi Marine. Jeff, when you get your new gauges intalled Id love to see a pic. Im not sure if I like the trim ring on the Ocean Line gauges, but Ive never seen them in person. I assume youre sticking with the white face?1990 Ski Nautique

Glad I saw this thread. I am looking at an '02 SAN with only 290 hrs. on it's Teleflex gauges. C.mom! Really! What is a guy suppose to do to find out what the actual hrs. are. Teleflex gauges have skewd the resale prices of the boats.Originally posted by Johnsongc View PostThanks to all for the input. It was interesting to read about Mike, who was recently looking at a "low hour" SAN, then read later that someone else bought the same vintage boat we are talking about ('00-'02) and it had 1200 hours.
Mike, what if the tach had just been replaced 4 months ago and it now shows 150 hours, but in reality it was also used at a ski school or as a competition boat and has greater than a 1000 hours on it. Would you pay the same price? I know I wouldn't. Frankly, you have no way of knowing exactly how many hours are on all models of CC boats using the digital Teleflex gauges.
All of this just brings me back to my original point that the Teleflex tachometer has the Responsibility for tracking engine/boat hours which to most buyers is a major concern in purchasing a used boat. If I have no way to honestly represent my boat on the market, I have a significant loss of value and believe that the manufacturer of the product should be held responsible.
Just as a side note (which is also a bit funny), my tach now resets to 0 Hours everytime I switch the mail kill switch to the off position. Great, I have a brand new boat everytime I turn it off!!!!!!

My '02 has had the gauge swap, and has appx 250 hours on the Farias. PO said the boat has appx 900 hours on it. I took it in and the local dealer scanned the GM Apex motor and said it showed just over 50 hours on it. So everything is all jacked up. I believe the PO, but the motor is so clean you could eat off of it. The rest of the boat is as well. Who knows how many hours are really on it. I don't really care. It's in good shape and runs well.Originally posted by Quinner View PostIf the boat has perfect pass (with a display) you should be able to get the hours from that as a comparison. Of course then you would need to determine if the PP was factory original and accurate as well.2002 Ski Nautique 5.7 GM Apex

Prior to the utilization of digital gauges and ECM's that capture engine hours, hours were captured by a simple gauge that was easily disconnected... or accidentally run high by leaving the key in the on position with the engine off. Half the older boats out there dont have working hour meters... the other half, who knows how accurate they are. But really, who cares?Originally posted by jo-e90 View PostTeleflex gauges have skewd the resale prices of the boats.
As always, you can assess the health of an engine with a basic compression test. Do a test drive and verify the boat performs as it should- that will tell you a lot about the engine and driveline. Inspect the boat... once youre at 10+ years old, its all about condition anyways. There are plenty of easy ways to determine the value of a boat. Those digital gauges were crap, but if theyve been replaced with something functional and half way decent looking, the lack of an accurate hour meter doesnt mean jack, IMHO.1990 Ski Nautique
