    Dead Battery

I'm stumped on this one. 08 210 dual batteries.

When I put my boat in the water Friday evening and switch the battery switch from the off position to Battery 1 starts up. If I leave the switch in the on position and get in it the next morning dead battery, even with the boat keyed off.

I have not tested this situation on battery 2, but when I switch to all, boat starts.

I've had battery 1 tested at Autozone, they said it just needed charged, but was a good battery.

The only mod I have made to this boat is added a tempory second AMP. For this connection, I have the HOT going to the spare 50A breaker in the breaker box and the ground going direction to the negitive of battery 1. I checked the amps with the power off and there is no light.

I don't think I have a loose battery terminal connection.

    Any suggestions?

    RE: Dead Battery

Since you have two batteries, easy to test the condition of your battery/electrical system. Fully charge both batteries. Put battery selector to battery 1. Let sit overnight and test battery. Next night, do the same for battery 2. If one battery was dead and the other was not, you have a bad battery. If both batteries went dead, look for a current drain in your electrical system.

My hunce is that you have bad cell in your #1 battery.

To confirm current draw or not, disconnect the positive terminal cable from the battery and reconnect it to the battery through a fused 10 amp ampmeter. Check for a draw.. . don't fire up your amp or crank the starter.

When you have the "boat keyed off" are you referring to the ignition key or the master switch that turns on the auto bilge? I believe the switch should be in the center position to shut down the boat entirely.

What did you use for the remote turn on for the amp?

          AMMD,

Keyed off is I have put in the code and hit stop. Yes the remote wire is properly connected.

Air - good idea. I will try this weekend.

I think it is a dead cell. I had to leave the batteries in the boat all winter hooked up. I was moving and never got to see it after it was put away.

On auto's, the key off draw (from failing memory) should be less than half an amp...typically 1/4 amp. I'd think on these boats it would be zero.

Do you turn the auto bilge/master switch to the off position? I ask because with the perko switch in the "both" position, as always in my case,
and not putting the master switch in the center/off position - there is a load on the batteries (however small) - enough so that in one weeks time
I will have just enough (barely) to start the boat.

With one battery on my 2005 - the battery would be dead due to whatever drain there was on the battery - put switch in center /off position and boat could sit
              for several months.

On my 94 SNOB - same situation - one battery - in that case it was a ignition push button on the dash plate

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to get in there this weekend.
