    2002 san starting problems

2002 san starts up great when first dropped in the water, but after a couple hours use it is very hard to start back up. It seems like the battery is going dead and it turns over really slow and will eventually crank most of the time. I know my battery is good and the alternator, It puts out 13.8 volts on my meter so I know its charging. Boat is not overheating and runs awesome until you cut it off and then its hard to start. I was wondering if my starter could be going bad? the past few times out I have been afraid to cut it off because I am afraid of getting stranded. Any help would be great. Thanks

Are you sure your battery is good?

I am sure the battery is good it is only 6 months old and I have took it out and taken it to two different auto parts stores and had it checked. I was told the starter could be drawing to many amps once it is hot and to replace it????? Not sure what to do. What does the silinoid do? thanks

Had same issue with my 2001 SAN it turned out it was a fuel pump relay, only had issues when engine had warmed up. Cold starts were fine. Inexpensive, and very easy to change since they are right next to ECU. I replaced both high and low.

here is where i got them:

I will try the fuel pump relay. Can you buy them at a local auto parts store, so i dont have to wait on shipping? I just had both fuel pumps replaced they went out thanks to the ethanol in the gas. Any other suggestions? thanks

im not sure exactly what the silinoid does , but they are $8 and really easy to replace. i replaced my starter in my 2001 SAN b/c it was dragging and then someone told me to replace the silinoid and that was the problem. i couldve saved $150.

I am leaning more toward the starter relay still unsure though, because it starts fine when its cold no problems at all. But once the boat has been run for a couple hours thats when it has the starting issues. It turns over, but slow and gets slower and will barely crank if your lucky.

Ok guys I replaced the starter first and once I replaced it, when I hit the start button all it did was click. So I replaced the starter relay from (ski dim) and then when I hit the start button I lost power to everything. I entered my code again and the same thing happened. I jumped the the two poles on the starter relay and the boat fired up. I have double checked all of my connections and still get the same response loosing all power. I have also put my meter on the battery and its good. I get the same volts at the starter relay and at the starter. Not sure what to do. Any more help would be great. thanks

After checking my ground wire and battery connections 2 or 3 more times I finally got it figured out. Loose connection
