    Calibrate the Speedometer

    I am wondering how to calibrate the speedometer. My perefect pass is out right now, so I can't use that. I know the manual says to use GPS, how would I do that doesn't GPS just give directions? I have a 2007 210.

      any GPS will give you speed as well as direction

              I think we're confusing Navigation systems with GPS. Navigation systems use Global Positioning Satellites (GPS) to give you directions. They have a map stored inside and take the GPS coordinates and place you on the map, translating that against the map to get you where you're going. GPS is merely a multi billion dollar system of satellites initially setup by the military, then converted to allow civilian use wherein at minimum three satellites (plus George) are avaible to receive and send a signal to your individual unit. After gathering the three responses your unit uses the response time to calulate distance from each of the three and using the magic of triangulation and lots of trig functions, it figures out exactly where you're located on a three dimensional plane, which your navi coordinates to a map.
              GPS doesn't look anything like a map, but rather a series of numbers indicating your latitude and longitude, direction, speed and elevation.

                      This is how I was told GPS works. There are many GPS satellites in on orbit, about 30 or 40 of them. Each satellite transmits a signal identifying that satellite, and the exact time, at the satellite.
                      Your GPS receiver also knows the exact time. It compares that time to the time each satellite says it is, and using the speed of light, calculates the distance to each satellite.
                      Because the orbit for each satellite stays the same, the GPS receiver knows where the satellites are, and then can figure out where it is. Now, it is fairly simple to compare the last position of the GPS receiver to where it was, to where it is, and how long it took to move there, and it can give you a speed.
                      I have a little handheld Garmin GPS, it cost about $160.00. It is a very handy tool for navigation.
