What Battery Fits in 2000 Ski Nautique 196 Battery Well

Replacing the dead auto battery that was in my 2000 Ski Nautique 196 when I bought it. Went to Walmart and got a Everstart 24 Marine Battery but its too tall to fit in the fiberglass well with the cover. Does anyone have a good recommendation in a wet cell battery that fits in this little well. Seems it really limits size and brands. Any brand and model number information is appreciated. Thanks.

Der....based on the lack of responses maybe I need to rephrase this....what battery brand and model do you use in your Ski 196?

I got something from Wal-Mart a few years ago that fits in my 2000/196. I’m going to the lake tomorrow morning and will try to get the brand and model number.

Dad had the same problem with a Group 24 in his '03. The Group 65 should fit- Im running the Everstart Maxx-65N in a few of my CC's.

The height needs to be under 8". That limits you to Group 65, 48, 41, and 34.

As for Brand, if you go deep cycle, optima blue top has a 34m. Mine has lasted about a year and is going south. It's about to get replaced with a good starting battery with some bolt extensions for the stereo amps. I don't run a lot of stereo power and rarely when not underway, so I think a good starting battery is a better fit for me. Will probably go with an AC Delco. I had one last over 5 years on my old MC and never put a charge on it. Just unplugged the negative over the winter. Ran me about $67 back then. I think they're about $80 now.

Wow, that's odd. My Blue top dual-purpose is going on year 4 with no problems so far.

you have to maintain your batteries, especially when you drop big $ on optima's or the like. ctek 7002 from earmark marine. get it. it works for every type of battery too.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I never put a charge on the Delco. The optima was on a battery maintainer. Other than that and keeping the posts clean and corrosion free, what specifically should I be doing?

I check this morning; I have an everstart 41-1 in my 2000/196. I’m not a big fan of Wal-mart junk, but was in a hurry and they were open all night. I have had it in the boat for four years, and it is still going strong.

My 2000 SN196 battery group is specified on a sticker under the battery lid as follows "Correct group is #48, #41 may be used as alternate"
