91 Sport - Oil Light On - Gauge Pressure Good

91 Sport - the Oil light is coming on but the pressure at the guage looks good (approx 40 at idle, 60 at speed when warm). The light is intermittent and more likely to be on when idling - usually goes off at speed. Oil and filter are new - had the same problem before changing. Temp is fine and impeller is new.

May be related is low voltage - I'm having this issue at idle and/or with the blower or other accessories on. I'll chase this down (batteries, cables, etc - lots of good info here to use) but wanted to see if anyone has seen an issue with the oil pressure light when the gauge looks good. Is there a separate sender? Other thoughts? Thanks - John

I have the same issue on my 1990 sport nautique. I was told by www.skidim.com to replace the Oil Sending Sensor. I never did, just unpluged the alarm.

My blinks intermittently as well. I know everything is fine though.

Seems to me that the oil pressure switch is bad (not the sending unit, but the switch T-ed off the sending unit piping). But, usually the engine goes into limp mode when the pressure switch goes bad.

Thanks for the info - I unhooked the alarm as well but just wanted to check with some others. Also - I don't think our engines have a limp mode or any electronic engine controls do they?

Sorry, my mistake, I assumed ProTec was around by then...guess not. So, does the '91 have the seperate oil pressure switch for the idiot light?

No - you are correct - ProTec was standard. It is gone from my boat - I have the regular distributor setup - I didn't include this info above.

I talked to Vince at DIM and need to check what was done when the ProTec was removed. Odds are separate sensor/switch for Oil Pressure and the Light. It will be a couple of weeks until I get back to the boat (kid's baseball). I'll post the results.

On that year they used a box from vdo gauges to control the lights and it takes the signal from the sender wire on the gauge. After a while the boxes get over sensitive to electrical draw from other accessories on or sometimes just idling along with nothing on. To fix the problem you have two solutions rewire the dash or unplug the box.

I know this is an old thread, but I just finished with the same problem with my voltage alarm. to make a long story short, the voltage, oil press, and temp alarms can be adjusted on the alarm module. Here is my thread on the subject.
