Do cc apply wax to the gelcoat before new boats leave the factory?

Probably. The dealer that sold the boat probably waxed the boat, also. When things got slow at the dealer I worked for, I waxed a few boats, oiled a few platforms, and generally tried to keep them clean.
I remember one time I got a talking to about spending a lot of time waxing and detailing a boat that had been there a little too long, the next week it sold.

Well the boat does look great, very shiny etc but due to some shipping delays I had to get the dealer to rush the boat out to me so I'm not usre they would have waxed it. I'm using it in saltwater so was considering giving it a good coat of wax for protection but didn't want to undo any work thay may have been done at the factory.

Maybe some of the guys who have visited the factory would have seen what happens in the final stages before the vacuum wrap goes on!

Why? I've run many types of boats in salt almost exclusively and they all looked and performed as new. Wash the boat and flush the motor after each use, and it doesn't hurt a thing. Manifolds need to be replaced periodically, but that is considered a maintenence item anyhow. The whole uninformed myth among the ski boat community regarding saltwater really amazes me. You should try skiing in saltwater sometime, it is way better than fresh. No burn in your eyes or nose from water rushing in, no ear infections, and the water is more buoyant. I am thankful for the water I have.

As far as wax goes, I have found the teflon based wax to hold up best in salt. Give it 2 complete coats back to back, then a 3rd about 30 days later and you are good for the season. I do this in my Ocean boat, and it holds up great.

You should try skiing in saltwater sometime, it is way better than fresh. No burn in your eyes or nose from water rushing in, no ear infections, and the water is more buoyant. I am thankful for the water I have.
