Bought a well loved '99 Ski Nautique last year with the infamous python 502 in it.
The boat overall was GREAT (so much fun with my 3 kids getting into water sports) but the boat was a bit worn inside and out. Moldy carpet, fading fiberglass, spent swim platform.
Over the fall I did the following:
Stripped out all carpet
Spent many many hours removing 2 (maybe 3 layers) or carpet adhesive dating back to the factory install.
Grinded fiberglass floor, compartments, seat/engine bases with flap wheel for final clearing of adhesive and floor flattening
Leveled low spots in floor with fairing compound
Grinded and leveled passenger seat base, engine hatch base
Gelcoated the entire floor, bow, compartments, walls, passenger seat base, engine hatch base etc. Anything fiberglass inside the boat the was carpeted is now gelcoated.
Rebuilt and sanded swim platform (rotted screw holes) and oiled (probably 12 coats!)
Then the boat went into indoor storage for the winter
This spring I did the following:
Removed all decals & pinstriping
Full hull and topside wetsand
Applied new decals and pin striping
Full ceramic coating on hull and top side
Ordered a custom cut Seadek floor (thanks for the file NautiqueJeff, worked great!!)
Installed floor
Made new cooler and battery compartment hatches with latches
Removed any remaining carpet for rear seat base, upholstery struts and refreshed with paint
Reupholstered drivers seat base cushion, passenger seat base cushion
Replaced steering wheel
New battery
Future plans:
Reupholster remainder of interior
Perhaps replace gunnel panels with starboard and seadek
Costs:
Seadek: $2600 (thank you dek-designs.com)
Wetsand / Ceramic coat: $3000 (used professional)
Materials (small tools, gelcoat, starboard, upholstery, tons of stainless fasterners, decals, steering wheel, amazon EVA foam, latches, etc. etc. etc., Probably $1500
Hard to say but maybe 150 man hours.
The boat is truly better than factory fresh now!!!
Working on posting photos.
