    Budget Wake Surf Nautique

We have put some weight in our 86 2001 and it isn't happy - stringers are a bit 'wet' and could tell the trans wasn't happy either.

Been looking at a 95 Nautique Super Sport and wanted to know if I should be looking at the Sport Nautique as well or maybe other hulls?

We (kids and us older ones) all enjoy wake boarding but injuries and age are getting in the way.

Is the V-drive better for wake surfing than the straight drive?

If you had ~$10K to spend which hull would you choose?

Cross posted with the fan site.

    Thanks!

You're on the right track, the (95-05) Super Sport/Super Air Nautique are tremendous value for wakeboard and wake surf. If you're willing to throw a lot of ballast 2,500+ and a wake shaper you can get a nice wave with a significant lip that is easily surfable. Upgrades on these boats can be expensive, if you can expand your budget and find something with upgrades already done you can save yourself a ton of time and money. (Tower, bimini, ballast system, cover, interior, trailer, perfect pass, etc. can add up quickly.)

A great time to be a boat buyer. A lot of great ones out there.

As someone who started surfing behind a '93 ProStar 205 with no Perfect Pass, yes, a v-drive will work much better. It's much easier to get the weight where you need it. I don't look fondly on the days of having a Fat Sac on every square inch of the floor with 3 buddies sitting on the stern.
I can't offer hull suggestions, but good luck!

Take a look at foiling. No huge wake required. Low surf like speeds (~ 10 to 12 MPH), takes a bit more skill than surfing (can be a good thing) and you don't need a surf barge to enjoy.
2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)
1997 Masters Edition Nautique - Zephyr Green - gone (amazing ski wake)
1982 Mastercraft Powerslot - gone (a primitive but wonderful beast)
