Surfing 2008 230 TE (surf system and ballast)

Hey guys, next week I'm picking a 2008 230 Team Edition. I've been researching the best ways to get a great surf wave. I've seen posts on here about Max's NSS system. I left a comment on his surf thread asking if he still makes aftermarket NSS. For those of you who have a 230, have you tried Go Surf Assist or another surf system that works well? What do y'all recommend?

What ballast are you running? I'm planning on tearing out rear hard tanks and putting in 1100's, 650 arrow sack in the locker, and 500 under the bow seats.

Any advice anyone wants to share? Apologies if this post is beating a dead horse. I've read several threads with similar discussion, but wanted to ask for advice regardless.

I have a 2009 230TE 409 that was very well set up by its previous owner. Piggy back arrow bag plus 750 piggys in the lockers, just running an older Ronix eight 3 shaper. Full center+arrow, full on the surf side and maybe 1/2-3/4ish fill of 750 on the other + shifting people around a bit gives and amazing wave. That full weight plus a mid size crew does sit the boat really low and above its weight rating so be aware. It still handles relatively well though. I put a set of Max's NSS tabs on last year and you definitely have to run a lot less ballast or the tabs get too deep in the water compared to the shaper setup. He makes them over the winter. Not bad to install yourself. They have a GPS controller for auto retract. I think there is a 4 position per side for deploy positioning and side swap toggle but there are generally full out. They are nice and are pretty much exactly what you would get with an OEM NSS 230 kit for that hull. But I actually prefer the results of the old shaper setup. The guy that I bought the boat off of, his neighbour had a 2017 230 with factory NSS and they both preferred the 2009s setup. Offsetting the swim platform to fit the tabs might have been the hardest part as it changes the geometry of the brackets. But raising it up the 2" is great. Cost wise, I'd wished I'd taken that tab money and just done some new audio.

Also, the tab system has a tab calibration that happens every time you power up the keypad. (to make sure the tabs are fully retracted). I find it slightly annoying if you're not surfing but you get used to it.

I think the bow 500 will be too much on top of the arrow+center. That arrow gives you a good load. I'd opt for a bit of lead that you can shift around instead.

Other stuff thats great on that era of boat:
FAE bolt on surf pipe is nice, cuts down a lot of noise and smell when you're riding.
Refreshed our interior with skins from C&S marine and Aquadeck
Platform raise also lets you put on a boarding ladder.
Grabbed a rear bimini extension from Shoreline brands thats looks great with our titan/over tower bimini thats good at surf speeds.
and a hangtyte cover suspension kit. So worth it not to deal with any support poles.
