The first 500 pounds made a HUGE difference. Much, much more than the extra 350 I put on top of that.

It rides just fine. Yes, I can certainly feel 850 pounds of shot always in the boat but it doesn't really bother me. With the stock ballast empty, the boat hops right up on plane. I bought the boat to surf so we're either headed to our surf spot, surfing, or heading back to the dock for the most part.

I get it. I'm hoping that by only adding 500 pounds of lead that it's a good in between... I'll just have to deal with the wake when skiing and kick everyone out... lol

How does it ride with the lead and all of the ballast empty? I just ordered 500 lbs of lead for my 18 230. Looking forward to a great surf wave and wakeboard wake! However I still slalom. Just wondering how it is with the extra weight constantly in the boat. (I know it's equivalent of 3 adults)...

You can easily go up to about 5000 pounds of ballast before diminishing returns. I regularly run just under that and LOVE my surf wake. In fact I’d be willing to say mine is better than anyone’s, but I don’t have pics to prove it so I’ll shut up for now. Also, sbaird4000... not tryin to pop your bubble or be a jerk, but you can’t have 500 in the front. The max you can squeeze under the front seat with a custom sack is 290-300.

No offense taken. I am actually running this 500 pound sac under the front seats https://www.wakemakers.com/straight-...w-bag-500.html . I will say however, when completely full the front seats do have a tendency to lift a little.

I don’t think it will be an issue to go more weight on a 230. The G boats lose effectiveness because you’re at 9000 lbs total weight with ballast full so going much beyond 9500 lbs sinks the plates too much. The 230 with 3100 lbs is only around 8000 lbs total I believe so likely it can still take more weight before overcoming the NSS plates. Get a big crew out there and see what it does! My buddy has a similar setup to you on his 2016 230 and he has 750’s in the back, 650 bow bag, and used 400 lbs of my lead weight and loves it. He’s looking for his own lead weight now but it’s out of stock where we live.

That's actually great advice....kicking myself for not thinking of that, lol! The only difference is, I don't ever fill the bow bag and the belly hard tank normally sits around 5/8 full (which puts me around 2500 pounds give or take). That being the case, you are running a bit more weight than I do. I believe your weight is spread more towards the transom and mid ship.Thank you, Charles!

I also have a 500 pound bag under the front seats, however, I haven't found that I need to use it because my crew is normally limited to 3 in the boat with 1 surfing. With everything filled I'm at 3100 pounds of ballast. I'm toying with the idea of buying 500 pounds of lead to put in the back under the wakemakers 650's. Will the extra 500 pounds make a huge difference of should I just stick with what I have? Thanks.

So with everything filled in my boat I'm at 2100 pounds of stock ballast plus 850 in shot. Total 2950. Not that far from your 3100. I'm not sure adding more will help. In fact, if you get too much weight in the back the NSS plate will be so far underwater that it will lose effectiveness. Before you buy weight, get a couple of big guys on the boat one day and have them sit on the locker lids while you surf. That'll tell you what another 500 pounds will do without having to buy it.
