    Sport Nautique wake

Does anyone have any experience with the slalom wake behind a sport nautique? (1999 model if it maters) I ski at 34mph and am wondering how bad the bump would be in the slalom course. Photos if anyone has any would be wonderful.

    Thanks

    RE: Sport Nautique wake

Haven't run on a slalom course, and I am no expert, but I think the bump is very soft. I ski at 34 to 35 mph, and if I stay on edge, I slice right thru the wake. I have even skied a 2006 216 and I think my wake is softer. But, it could be my imagination.

I have also had some other very experienced skiers tell me that the wake behind my 99 Sport is pretty nice considering how big the boat is.

I slalom behind my 96 Sport all the time. The wake is just a tad larger than my parents' 1982 2001 @ 36mph but it isn't too drastic.

I ski behind a 99 and a 2002 on a regular basis (in the course and free ski) @ 34-36 mph, and it is very good considering the boat size. @ 28 off + you don't even feel it. As you slow down under 32, it definately gets bigger, but still manageable. My wife doesn't like it, but she is used to a PS 190 that is flat. The 98+ has the TSC hull which has a better ski wake than the prior hull. For an all-around boat, it's hard to beat.

I own a 1998 Sport Nautique. Anyone who hasn't skied behind a 196 or 206 loves the wake. My friend has a 206, and it has no wake. Above 30 mph, the Sport Nautique wake is small and soft, but there. I guess I'm a little spoiled from the 206!

I use to ski the course A LOT behing a 93. I think the wake was fine. I ski on a 97 ski most of the time now, and can't tell much difference at all. A 1999 would even be better than the 93. Keep the ski on edge and you won't feel a thing.

I have a 2001 sport that I slalom behind regularly - typically 34MPH in the course, 22 to 32 off. I also ski behind a friend's MC 197 and I'm always amazed how good the wake is behind my sport. There's certainly a difference, but it doesn't seem overwhelming. I usually don't even feel it. The biggest difference is at 32 off and shorter where the spray from the sport starts to feel like gravel.

We have put over 25 hours on our new to us sport since we got her. I added PP, took the racks off of the tower, put on a new OJ machined prop, and dialed in the PP and the rudder. Its as close to a ski machine as it will get, it tracks well in the course and the times are dead on, I am alo pretty satisfied with the wake. It isnt bad at 32, but at 33 or 34 it gets to be pretty good. I would say its almost the same at 34 as my 99 Ski Nautique was at 31-32. My only gripe is it drives like a barge compared to my old ski nautique.

I have an 06 216. What do you mean by dialing in the PP and the rudder? Would changing out the stock prop improve it as a slalom boat?

What I mean is I have the PP set up to pull times that are in spec for all our ski speeds. I am using PP digital pro, with the smart timers. If you have the wakeboard pro, it can be reset to digital pro if I understand correctly. The rudder has been adjusted to make it pull a little more to the left, which makes it easier to drive in the course. If your skiing then the acme 422 or oj 428 is the prop to run. Your machine may even have a little smaller wake then ours, since its on the tsc 2 hull. The main thing is skiing at 33-36mph and not having any excesive amount of weight in the boat. The wake at 30-32 is disapointing if your used to a 196 or similiar.

This boat will never be the slalom boat a 196 is, but it can be pretty good family ski machine.
PM me if this doesnt make sense, and feel free to bring your boat to our record capable slalom course (so I am told) and we will get it dialed in to make it a family ski machine. (another manufacturer uses it to dial in their ski boats before they leave the factory.)

Thanks for the explanation on dialing in the PPand adjusting the rudder. I do not have magnets but set the PP for DigitalPro and calibrate with a GPS. It seems to work pretty well.

I ski at 32MPH at 15 off. My buddy (who is a much better skier than I) was not happy with the wake at 32MPH and 22 off.

What effect will changing the prop have on my wake?

What prop do you have? In my limited experience the OJ has slightly more rooster tail the the acme 422. The 22' off wake will be bad no mater what. Tell him to take off the next section. 28' off is much better. The wake does get better at 33 and 34.

WHen you calibrated did you use the hand timer? Mine would not calibrate correctly without times. I tried GPS and addjusting the baselines but it still wouldnt be accurate.
