    RE: perspective...

The best storage out there is under the bow of a 196. Lots of room. I have waited out rain storms under there.

I will sell my story if they have the cash. Maybe I better patent it quick.

          RE: perspective...

          agree completely with scoke.

i was going to trade my 97 196 for a 206 last year till i drove and skied it. great boat but at 34mph and 15off major difference to me. if you have your stuff together coming across no big deal. 28 and in probably no difference, i just can't sniff 28 any more.

driving the 206 did feel like a pig, compared to my closed bow. it does take the rollers significantly better though.

when we got our lake place done, we decided to keep the 196 because we use the toon for cruising with more than 6. and when skiing i don't want more than 3 in the boat anyway... goes without saying we don't board much.

if we were still spending the whole day at the lake, with no place to sit on the dock then we would have a 206 or a snob. as it is i won't be changing boats. just my 2 cents.

Two comparisons to a pig? Wow. I am starting to feel a little like Scotty:

In defense of my little soooeee, a pig though she may be, she pulls like a horse and tracks like she's on rails; she has a great wake at the speed and line lengths that matter; my wife can drive her straight; and my dogs can keep a look out for jet-skiers and other houligans from the bow. I, frankly, am very, very happy with my 206--even if my 68" F1 won't fit in the rear locker.

I had a '98 196 with an FCT, I liked every aspect of that boat. The wake was great at any speed any line length. The pull was super strong I pulled 8 skiers out of the water with that boat. The family grew to 3 children and the morning sets were getting fewer so I bought an 06 206. At first I was very dissapointed with the new boats performance. It felt huge in the water (I would never refer to any CC as a Fat Pig) the pull seemed a little sluggish and the handling felt soft compared to the 196. The wake at the kids speeds 25-28 is large at 32-34 it flattens out nicely but the 22 off rooster is obvious. I soon recognized with the variety of activities we use the boat for, skiing, tubing , footing, boarding, lounging in at the dock, I had made the right choice with the 206. I have grown to like the 206 and appreciate the super quality of the boat.

                RE: perspective...

I can get you two 196's to choose from. both are 2007's, 0ne is red/black 120 hours, the other is blue /grey 60 hours both have PP Digital Pro and Heaters. both are on Ramlin's. Both have had carpet layed over the original carpet so they are ABSOLUTELY LIKE NEW-SHOWROOM-CONDITION.....
Both are located in Pgh.PA Let me know if you are interested

I went through this same line of questioning last year. After multiple conversations with SGY and Mark S and Andy Mapple, I went with the 206. I also skied several sets behind it and it and it seemed fine. I bought the boat and loved a lot of things about it. I ski a lot of sets behind other 196s and Malibus, and IMO, the 206 is no where near those boats (wake quality). Especially at 32-34 mph and 15-22' off. At the shorter lines, the other guys may be right. The other issue that I had was that none of my buddies would ski behind the 206. If you are just buying the boat for you, then who cares - get what you like. We move around lakes a lot based on wind direction, so it made a difference for me. I just never got comfortable with the boat and always felt that I had left something on the table with that boat. I sold it in December and bought a 2008 196 with Zero Off. I could not be happier. The best boat ever in my opinion. I don't miss the open bow and I feel that I have the best ski machine possible. If you are a course skier, I think that you will regret the 206.
