We've gone off the rails of the OP's original point. It's not that the boats are eye-wateringly priced (they are) or that credit has become too easy/long (it has). The point is that the S23 just doesn't make much sense based on the price for what it is in the current new boat lineup. The marketing was clunky, the baseline options aren't good, and the design isn't very universally praised.
I pay quite a bit of attention to Nautique and I can't tell if this is supposed to be a 230 replacement, a G with a traditional bow, or "the" surf boat in the lineup. If it's the 230 replacement, it should have just had some design cues from the Ski Nautique hull, a slightly upgraded interior and a $10-15k price bump. If it's a G with a traditional bow it should start with the G engine at least. And finally if it's a dedicated surf boat it should be put out as such with a hull dedicated for surfing and some other items that will really throw a wave you can't find stock anywhere else.
But all those marks were missed and now I just would see no reason to save $8k and not end up with a G.
As a final point, if I optioned out an S23 with a big engine, fancy tower, etc etc I'm now in a traditional bow boat that needs a 3/4 ton to pull it.

I demo'd the S23 twice. I was really impressed with the interior and wakeboard wake. The exterior is growing on me. I do like that it is a bit lighter S23 (5500), than g21 (5800) and g23 (6000). I wakeboard 99% of the time am a beginner level, wake to wake, working on 3, tantrum, rolls. I came from a 2000 SAN 210 so I was hoping the 100" width would produce a narrower wake than the G. I haven't wakeboarded behind a G but heard it has a wider wake. I rode at 22mph, but I saw videos of Shaun Murray riding all the way down to 17mph or something. I like this as I have a one year old and lots of newbies learn on my boat. The interior is great, I actually prefer it to the G. I am not a fan of the diamond pattern under the gunnel by the cupholders and I don't like the speaker covers.
The quotes that I got were more than most of the 2019 and 2020 G's listed on marketplace and onlyinboards. This relates to OP's question about pricing. Other than you get a new boat, for engine/features/performance you can get a 1-2 year old G cheaper than a new S23 (or S21 as well). I guess Nautique is just trying to capitalize on the new boat buyers, older surf crowd, or people that just want a new boat, because price wise you can get a slightly used still under warranty G for cheaper. So it doesn't really fit the in between GS and G market.

I was in the boat with Murray when we were testing the low-speed wake. The 17 MPH wake test was legit. I shot the videos you saw. We probably could have slowed down even more and kept a clean wake.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina.

Similar price, that is what OP experienced. Similar capabilities, I would say that is debatable. That was the point the OP was trying to make as well as myself and others have debated in this thread. The G has a transom storage/cooler, S does not. And the trash can and cooler are under the seats in the S, easily accessible in the G. 100" vs 102" beam.
To your other point about the 210 and 230, maybe sales were way down and they don't see the value there anymore. But, I bet there are still a good amount of loyal 210/230 owners that are disappointed those models are gone.
I personally would have liked to see the S model a as a scaled up 230 instead of a scaled down G. If that makes sense.

Built a couple Supra SA and SL on the website, they are coming in at MSRP 15-20k under my S23 quote after discount. Going to go take a hard look at them and hopefully demo one. I really, really wanted to stay with Nautique and thought the S was my boat, but the MSRP seems off and the discount was insulting (IMHO).

I ended up with a Supra SL this summer due to low G23 inventory. Great boat. Wake, wave, and stereo are all top notch. User interface is subject to personal opinion but I didn’t like it, not nearly as simple as the G23 but it did have some cool features. Fit and finish is not a Nautique.

I want to stay with Nautique, I have even reached out to Nautique via email and facebook about an issue I am having. The concierge called me last Thursday and said I would hear from them by the end of the day. Have not heard from them yet.

I'm closer to the top of the loaded boat specs. Comparable G vs S was closer to $30k difference. Same motor, same tower.
