Hi everyone! I know this is an older thread so I hope its ok to still post! I am actively looking for a 220 and want some opinions on the engine options. I am located in North Florida, so no elevation issues; however, I will routinely have 10 people out on the boat with me. I would definitely prefer to find a boat with the ZR6, however, they seem to be somewhat rare. Would I have any issues hauling around and surfing with 10 people with the smaller engine options?

In my opinion 10 people, sacked out for surfing with the smaller engine will be a struggle in my opinion. While I don’t have experience with this boat, this engine, with 10 people and full loaded. I do think you’ll want the bigger engine. Others may chime in

I have an '07 211 with a 330, which is obviously a bit smaller (looks like about 3" narrower and 700+ lbs lighter), but routinely having 10 people and surf ballast, I'd say definitely look for the engine upgrade.

Thanks for the responses! I would really prefer the larger engine, it just seem to be much much harder to come by. I have only found one on the market, and its all the way in California, so way to far away for me to consider.

The equation is f ( Gross Weight *1/Prop Pitch ) = Torque*RPM/5252 (which is HP)

EX330 has 370 ftlb stated torque
Full ballast 11mph we are pushing 7000 lb with a 14.25 pitch @ around 3100 RPM = approx 210 HP being used.
I can get onto a plane with that weight, but it's not so much the engine - it feels ridiculous with all that fuel being inhaled vs taking it easy and bubbling along.

A 220 is 4K +2K people and fuel etc 6K weight. Depends what you want to do with the boat at that weight and what pitch you want to run with.
