Hi all, I was informed by the dealership I recently purchased our 2018 Nautique 200 OB (promo boat) that there have been issues with the front bow cushion blowing out of the boat when trailering. They recommended pulling it out while trailering.... It seems pretty tight in place, however, was wondering if anyone has heard of this or had that experience?? Thanks. Keven

I’d pull it or cover the boat. You’d be surprised what will blow out. I had a 196 where the steering center cap would get blown out onto the floor every time I towed it.'08 196LE (previous)

Oh you should see some of the boats that come into my dealer from people who've towed with the cover on. It's UNREAL how much damage a cover can do. The top of the windshield frames buffed completely clean of paint. Fiberglass edges "frosted" from the covers moving back and forth.Originally posted by Nautiquehunter View PostI always tow with the cover on so nothing can blow out and nothing can blow in like cigarette butts rain dirt ect.
In one really bad one, the ratchet strap on the back came loose and banged around the back of the boat for 2 hours. Huge gashes in the fiberglass, ruined the SeaDek on the platform and wrecked both of the slotted vents.
Towing with the cover on is just too risky to save a little cleaning.

The key to covered towing is the cover must be super tight so no movement is possible. I also had a ratchet strap come off I pulled over immediately but still had 1 little peck in the top hull . Since then we added 5 hold down straps its a 08 boat and there is no damage caused by the cover.

Hello Everybody
I'll put my 2 sense in. I've got a 99 sport owned sense New never towed it except with the cover on!!! Cover is exceptionally tight only thing that's ever happened is rubbing the paint a little on top of the windshield. I'm from Pittsburgh and looking forward to heading to Lake Powel this summer and I'm definitely going to tow with the cover on all the way!

The newer covers from Nautique have 2 ratchet straps on the stern of the boat. More normal than notOriginally posted by Bushski View PostI'm not sure why you guy's are talking about ratchet straps on a cover. Mine is just snapped on the rubrail that's all no extra straps.

Thanks for all the replies. Our 200OB has a dark blue gelcoat and shows everything.. I have a feeling the promo person who had our boat before we purchased it likely towed it with the cover on, and while the cover is very nice (with the ratchets mentioned), there are scratches all over the entire top deck and guard rail all the way around the boat. I think I’ll just pull the bow cushion for long trips, just wondered if any other 200OB owners had an issue? Thanks again everyone.

Typically, the shuddering from a cover would not cause scratches, but a buffing effect. I am sure there is a word for it, but the gel would look faded.Originally posted by Keven View PostThanks for all the replies. Our 200OB has a dark blue gelcoat and shows everything.. Thanks, I have had no issues going the short distance to the boat ramp, but was worried taking longer trip down freeway (like I have to tomorrow to bring the boat to dealer where I purchased boat for warranty work). Not sure what caused the scratches on top deck gelcoat, I have buffed and buffed and have gotten it looking much better but still a lot there. Gonna have the dealer take a shot at it, maybe needs wet sand? Thanks

I put at least 4000 miles on our trailer tires this past summer alone, not one with the cover on it. My buddy will not tow without his cover on his Tige. Our cover is a tower down cover and I just don’t trust towing with tower down as our starboard board rack rests on the top of the drivers seat when tower is down and racks folded in. I have never had any issues from towing without the cover and he has had none towing with the cover. Point is, which ever you do, just make sure you it the correct way for each option and you will be good.

Wet sanding is always an option on gel, but a rotary buffer or a gear driven orbital with a course or medium wool pad and course to medium compound should take out cover scuffs; follow up with a gear-driven orbital and fine wool and then a medium foam pad and polish to finish and take out the holograms left by the rotary. Look into a Rupes Mille or a Flex 3401 gear driven orbital if you don't already have one. They work like magic on gel with the right pad and polish combination.Originally posted by Keven View PostThanks, I have had no issues going the short distance to the boat ramp, but was worried taking longer trip down freeway (like I have to tomorrow to bring the boat to dealer where I purchased boat for warranty work).
