  • G23 engine options

I’m sure this topic has already been discussed somewhere but I’m new here and am still learning but to get to the point we’ve decided to upgrade to a 2019 G23 from our 2015 210. We usually run the 210 at full ballast with around 10 people in the boat and it does fine surfing with the ex343 but really struggles to plane out to wake board if you can even get it to plane. So my question is which powerplant (H6 or XS7 both with the 2:1 reduction) would best suit a g23 that will send most of its time with full factory ballast and 10-12 people in it on average?

The H6 should be really good for you and your crew. I would highly recommend taking both out for demo though if possible just to make sure.

I wouldn't be happy with my 2016 G23 at elevation (4000-6000) with the H6. The XS7 is just right...especially if you want to wakeboard with full ballast.

Are you in a coastal environment? If not, I would save some $ and get the XR7. Both supercharged, similar power ratings and $7,000 msrp less.

Do you really take 10-12 people on average in your 210? I would think that would be miserable with that many folks in a 210. If that is indeed the case I think you may want to consider the $10,000.00 upgrade to the 550 vs the H6 engine in the G you are considering .

Yes GMLIIi on average the 210 has 10 people in it and it gets relatively cramped at times but it’s still a load of fun. Once the G comes the amount of people on board will most likely bump up to 12-13 which has given me the concern that the H6 will not be enough in loaded situations. Thank you for the input

Not sure if it matters, but factor in the 550 needs premium fuel so make sure that is an option for your boating area.

Your elevation is critical. The H6 would do very well at sea level, IMHO. I have the H6, and by the time I reach 3600 feet, it is pretty slow to wakeboard speed with 10+ people and full ballast. At lower elevations, I enjoy the 10K savings.

I would not know how to wakeboard with full ballast and that many people, so I would not do full ballast, but that is just my lack of skill. So the H6 works fine for my crew of 10 people and less than 3,000 feet.

Despite the fact that I own a very expensive boat, 10K is a lot of money to me, and it would mean I have to chip away at some other expenditure if I were to go supercharged. If it would not jeopardize some other vacation/slush fund/reserve, I would go supercharged, if that makes sense, even though I am pretty pleased with the H6.

Wow....10 people regularly in any boat let alone a 210, that would be so uncomfortable....At 20 mins a ride it'd be over 3 hours before your 2nd.
Each to their own I guess, as long as your having fun.

With 12 in the G and full ballast the H6 will do it, but it'll be slow to plane and do it tough.... Theirs a lot of stop starting with 12 on board too.
Id be going the 550 all day long no matter the elevation. Your big crew will cover the extra gas......
Just my experience.....I've had both engines. The 550 will pop straight up with your load.

Test both engines....but make sure you load them the same as you intend to use the boat.
Do plenty of stop starts......after that, the decision will be easy.....

                      550 costs you $5-8k more.

youre able to sell it 2-4K more than a 450.... but you’ll be able to resell it much faster with those $500-$1000/mo payments hitting

so to say it costs you $10k more isn’t really accurate. Might cost you 2-3k more.... if that

If you normally run full ballast with 10+ people, go with the 550 XR7 for sure.

Ryan is right...Just reviewed my 2016 build sheet...The XR7 was a $6797 upgrade over the H6 in that year. And that is MSRP.

Oddly enough, the H6 is the base motor for the G25, and the upgrade is $8984. That is strange, but whatevs.

Bottom line you need a G25 with a 550 or leave some friends behind on the dock to watch

Tall, it’s even less than you listed.

no one pays MSRP for options
