like I said..... I've seen a 7000lb G23 go up and down on a 5k shorestation 1000 times over the last 5 years, and never an issue...... even when he left his ballast full and lifted 10k. But, I can understand your concern, and I'd definitely be worried with some other brands.

I have not heard much that anyone thought the MXZ wake was taller than any G wake. But it's good you are back here asking more questions. I would try that test drive again, and I bet you will see the wave differently.

I get 7-8 GPH while surfing in my G23 stock ballast. That is engine hours. I don't run the engine between riders (I can't believe I had to ask someone not to asphyxiate me with their Centurion the other day...It won't hurt your boat to start and stop it, Geez.) In a full day, I frankly find it hard to run up more than 7 hours between breaks between surfers, eating, relaxing and listening to music etc.

If cost is an issue, then ignore what Wayward said about prop change because he has the supercharged motor which appears to handle a lot more prop. If you stick with the ZR4, I suspect the stock prop matches it very well. The supercharged motor is a 20K upgrade over the ZR4. The power of the ZR4 is very nearly the same as the H5, but the H5 is supposed to be more fuel efficient. Frankly, I cannot tell the difference on my butt dyno between the H6 and he ZR6 that my last 2 boats had, and my fuel bill is still a lot.

I'm hoping you are interested in fuel economy just because you don't want to have to get gas mid-day. If you are spending 100K on a boat and worried about the gas bill, you have stretched yourself a bit thin. The H5 is a $3400 upgrade, it would take hundreds, if not a thousand hours to recoup that money with your gas bill.

Buy my 2016 G23, er,um I mean buy a used G23 which should allow you to get into G23 territory without breaking the bank as badly.

I did demo both the 21 and the 23 but i didnt see a difference in the wave between the two and the wave just seemed small compared to the MXZ on the lowest setting, however, it was a crappy day for surfing and we didnt get to spend long time the boat, not sure if the dealer just doesnt spend alot of time on these demos but it sure felt that way. I def am not worried about he cost of fuel just hate getting fuel mid day and wasting 30 minutes at the dock. My crew is never bigger than 7 or 8 at the max so I dont know if I even need the 23 but I do love the extra space and options that come standard on the 23. RRRRRRR what to do

I have a 2014 G21 (436h) and most of the time my crew is not bigger then 6, because i don't like to have that many on the boat surfing. To much time between sessions ;-). I have the 409 Engine and i'm getting fuel when i go below 30%. Its not so easy to tell the "surf time" between fueling, but i don't have to travel a long way from harbor and fuel station - around 6 engine hours - 6 gph

I do like some feature of the G23 (the cooler ;-)), but most important to me is the wake and there was no big difference, second was the price, and there was a difference ;-).

But you see a lot more G23 then G21 on the lake i am.

Yep, and my 2014 g21, with full tank of gas and 4 guys in the boat went up and down all season long with 0 problems on a shoremaster 50120...the 50120 is a simple cantilever lift. the beauty of a cantilever lift is that the weight pulled is primarily on the front and rear i beams that support the rack. Unlike a vertical lift where the weight is always on cables. a buddy of mine snapped a cable on his 6000# lift (a brand of lift you guys are recommending) for a 4000 lb axis. I love my cantilever lift, easy to maintain, 3 pulleys and one cable. easy to see the cable length to check for fraying.

i spoke to many lift dealers, and yeah uh. how do i say this. they sell lifts. but one guy was telling me that he has no idea why vertical lifts got so popular compared to cantilever, he figures just a trend kind of thing. and after i told him i would just try it when i got the boat and go slow and if it broke the lift i would just give the lift away for someone to repair, he told me he had a friend that use a cantilever 5000# with a 8000 lb boat for 10 years.

p.s. my lift has the upgraded ao smith motor and housing not the shoremaster standard issue and upgraded cable with wider width.

p.p.s. if i left 2800# of ballast plus the g, plus 4 guys, would probably be the end of the lift. lol...but i kind of knew it would work with the g cause when i had my 210 @ 3900# plus 4 guys, plus did accidentally have full ballast it did not break...

p.p.p.s. like has been mentioned it may make sense to adjust your prop to lower rpm's for your main activity. these saves having to pay for engine upgrade, saves gas cause engine working less hard, and quieter. but i don't surf much so others or acme would have to figure it out with you.

i've had both a G23 and G21(current). Surf wave better on the g23. I don't surf much so Wakeboard wake was more important. G21 was less expensive and a tad easier on my lift. The G21 has been my favorite boat so far, but with an expanding family and crew, we may be back in a G23 before too much longer.
