Port side wake not firming up

When pulling my six year old daughter, the port side wake of our 2016 G23 won't firm up. I've tried adding ballast to the port side and front tanks but that ends up washing out the starboard wake. For reference, we pull her at 16-17mph and the starboard wake firms up great, but the port side is always washed out. Any ideas?

Going too slow...... 99% of wakeboats aren't going to clean up at 16-17. Heck, 60% won't clean up on both sides until 20+......A G23 should clean up both sides at 18-19 with no ballast.

I thought that might be it, but was curious why the starboard side was so clean. Might just have to wait until she can handle higher speeds, unless anyone has any other ideas

I just started to have same problem on Portside washout
while wakeboarding at 19.5 mph all ballast 100%
and 250 lb ballast bags on port side. One month ago at same setting great
wake port and starboard . Even adjusted rudder
fin but still didn't help. Killing me I can't figure out what is causing the port side washout when I had great wake
a month ago with same settings . NSCR was at 5

maybe wind, wave, current or any other external element that make your 19.5 mph read false, my 2 cts. Be careful also if you use speed control, check that the boat speed is equal to your speed control settings. Sometime, the speed control system cannot reach the speed you setup by 0.2 to 0.3. Just increase your speed control setting by 0.2 or 0.3 and then you will reach your desired speed.

The G23 does well with 200 pounds or so extra on the port side for wakeboarding. You can offset ballast, but the best thing to do is add some lead - then you can fill the ballast full on both sides. : )

This isn't answering your question, but is she ready/capable of riding that fast? I would do the same for my 5 year old last summer but went back to a longer rope at slower speeds so that he could improve his fundamentals. It's made a huge difference in the amount of tricks that he'll try now that faceplanting doesn't hurt nearly as much... As he continues to improve, I'll just focus on him working skills on one side of the wake until he's doing heel/toe jumps and consistently (both regular and backside) off of both sides.

Food for thought and good luck!

imhoff - thanks for your response. I'm pulling her at that speed trying to firm up the wake as she rides right foot forward and thus can't jump heel-side with that wake washed out. The more i've thought about it though it's definitely not a speed issue as the starboard wake is really clean. May have to play with weight in the boat to figure it out but was hoping for an easier answer. Appreciate the responses thus far

I have had the same issue with my girls. Fewer people in the boat i.e. less weight overall will help for sure. I use 250lb of weight on port side. I will also shorten the rope quite a bit. I have found you can get a good Wake consistently at about 17mph. Good luck cleaning up your wake. I encourage you not to speed up until she is very ready. You are definitely on the right track with the slow speed training.

Also try adjusting your NCRS to 0 or 1 this will drop the nose of the boat and help clean the wake at slow speeds.

That seems pretty slow to ride full ballast. But it might be water temperature. Where I'm at the water temp has really increased in the past month. And colder water is more dense, so maybe the less dense warmer water messed with your wake. Just my guess.

I was thinking the same thing. If you are riding at 19.5 behind a G you probably don't need any ballast.

I have not tried this approach. Have been running NCRS at 5 but will try 1 to see if this changes anything to clean up the port side

Never thought of this theory but you may be onto something here

I'm such a wake physics nerd. In my 210 I always think it is crazy if you just move 1 person a few inches in can change the wake. Or switch people from front to back for more push in the surf.

Don't be afraid to try new setups.

Fwiw to try new tricks in my 210 we weight it to one side and run slow around 19. Falls hurt less. The weighted side should clean up.

Your weight and board size can make a difference too. Less weight bigger board equals slower speed. But the wake won't push back as hard at the wake.
