Why no Ramfill?

Hi. With ramfill having been out for a few years with centurion and correct craft now owning them I am wondering why we have not seen ramfill on nautiques. I know a few centurion and mb owners who say it works well (mb surf surf wake is terrible though) so curious as to why it has not taken off. The pumps are a drag to wait for so thought this might be the cure but maybe not? Is this something we can expect or are there issues with it that prevent it from being widely adopted? Just curious to hear what people have heard or have to say.

I would venture a guess there are patent issues. It appears to me that Correct Craft runs these businesses as separate operations and probably keeps the legal entities separate. There are probably restrictions on Centurion sharing that a patent across to another entity albeit a related one.

Jeff occasionally does a Q&A with Yeargin. Would like to see this question asked the next time that opportunity presents itself.

Off topic but the I've got 3 friends w MBs and the surf waves are really good. They do all have Tomcats and took some tuning with bags but I like the wave on them. Honestly cleaner than my G and 230.

I've been in a Centurion with Ram fill...awesome for surfing...but try using it to fine tune a wakeboard wake. The pumping system is WAY more accurate and controllable with the ability to fine tune each amount in each tank/bag

Isn't Ramfill or any other type of ballast system like that licensed from Mike Murphy? He invented that system and called it the Pure Vert, I thought.

Sounds like Centurion is still trying to work out bugs in the Ramfill. Have a friend with it and they are having some problems with the valves not closing all the way due to something happening with the valve that appears to be caused by the force of the water entering and exiting. From what I understand they have changed the parameters in new boats for the speed at which the valves open and close to see if that fixes the issue.

Gates fail a lot

Agree with comments that the gates stick or fail. Friend has 2014 SV244 and even after his old ones were replaced they still stick. You have to reach down to manually jiggle them to work. PITA

Recovering MB owner here...the ram fill systems are great, but on the MBs the gates break and get stuck all of the, especially in Lakes with hard water. The gates are actually RV parts used to dump the sewage on an RV.

When properly weighted and listed (even with their surf systems) the MBs surf extremely well. That was the case up until the 2018s. MB just did a major redesign on their B52 hull and added front ballast. That front bag uses a bag and pump. Also the plug n play 1100s on top of the factory Ram fill uses pumps to fill. They do empty in the rear with gravity though.

Not to divert the thread anymore than it already is, but anyone considering an MB is crazy simply because of their support of warranty issues. All repairs take forever to get approval from MB and several times they are out of the parts at the factory. I factually know of a dealership who dropped the brand because of this.

In summary be careful what you wish for. I am certain the engineers at Correct Craft have looked into Ram Fill but are not convinced enough in the reliability and function to put it into the Nautique brand.

I agree with you on the fact that filling and emptying in a minute or so is very nice, but it's not worth down time when the boat is in the shop. With the new Jabsco King Ballast pumps, the bags fill up very quickly now anyway.

No one in my crew is ever ready to go that fast for it to be worth it for us to give up the reliability of a reversible pump. Shoot, the kids are always looking for 20 min to swim anyway!

I too have investigated Ramfill and initially thought it would very attractive to have on my G23. But consider this; Ramfill requires the boat to be on plane to fill and empty. What happens if the boat has an engine or prop malfunction while surfing? I could not imagine trying to retrieve a disabled boat with 5000lb of ballast. No I'm ok with pumps. But increase their capacity and add another 1000lbs of ballast so I can get rid of my lead and I will be completely satisfied.
