    Buying my first Nautique

I have owned only one comp boat before and I bought it new back in 2011. I have sold that boat (2 yrs ago) and I am about to buy a 2011 SAN 230 ... it is used obviously. I want to know what I need to ask the owner, what do I need to look for and require before I buy. I'm always leery of buying anything used bc you always take a risk (no factory warning, etc).

    Thanks in advance!

I am here in DFW and the service has all. Even through Buxton ... so I guess as long as I see all of the service reports I should be good?

What I'm saying is if you buy through Buxton they will take care of you. Private owner your on your own. I'd at least have them check it out before you bought it.

I gotcha ... I guess you get a better deal (price wise) when you take a risk and go through private seller. It's a '11 SAN 230 with 125'ish hrs for $50k

That's a pretty solid deal as long as it's a clean boat. What options does it have?

50k for a 2011 230 is cheap unless its beat up and stripped.

Agreed ..........stellar price assuming the boat is n average/above average condition even with the base 343 . 2011's don't get the price hold like 12's and up due to the fact NSS isn't a direct plug and play option. Plenty info here on how to add it to 2011 tho if you should desire to do so. Quite honestly tho the homemade "suck gates " work just as well if not better than NSS fir fractions of the cost.

Well I did look the boat over pretty good. No scratches/cracks/chips on the hull ... upholstery looked good (little discoloration on the back storage pads) but no tears or loose seats. Sea Deck flooring looked good ... it does have the 343.

Jump on that deal! I have a 2008 230 and I'd sell it for about that cost. I'd be running to secure that deal assuming there is nothing fishy with the title.

I woukd give the guy a deposit immediately , tell him you'd like to somehow get the boat to Buxton and have them do compression check and a little once over on the engine. Depending on what Buxton chargers it could range from 200-350 . You'll now have piece of mind the engine is solid and then close deal when it checks out. If seller says he's. It comfortable with that , I would be a touch leary, but I don't know that it would be a deal breaker. The boat is barely even broken in with those hours. But call right now and give the guy his cash before it disapappers

Take a good look at the engine compartment. Look at the motor mounts for signs of corrosion. Look for oil in the bilge, and just generally how the motor appears. Some dirt and dust is ok, and rust or corossion is a sign of something that needs to be investigated further. I often find that the trailer tells the story of the boat. If the trailer looks beat and neglected it is usually safe to assume the boat was cared for in the same way. Is the steering smooth and loose, or binding? How about the wakegate? Look at the tracking fins and where they mount for dings, indicating strikes. Check all the systems, lights, pumps, blower etc for functionality. Small scratches can be buffed out, fiberglass gouges can allow water absorbtion, again indicating more investigation. Faded upholstery means the boat was left uncovered in the sun for long periods. Was it left in the water or on the trailer. All that said, 50k is a great deal for that boat given it has no major faults

So I have found out that the first year this owner had the boat it was not winterized and engine cracked. Buxton REPLACED the engine and the warranty was extended. I am telling him we want the boat today! Haha thanks for all the input! Will keep y'all updated!

I have bought two used boats out of state and Buxton has done all of my service (except for one winterization). They did gel coat repair for me after I hit a stump and other work including annual maintenance. I have never felt second class or treated like I was placed behind others. Not saying it couldn't happen if they were in a bind but it has not been my experience to date. They are great and having them check out your boat potential purchase is a great move.
