Looking at purchasing a 2011 Air Nautique 230. Are these a good surfing boat? If so whats needed to get the optimal wake? New member and thanks!

They are great surf boats. On my 08 we ride listed. With the port factory tank full and a piggyback 750 fat sac on top of that. The front ballast is also full with a bow filer sac under the seats. When I'm really into it we also fill another 750 that sits on top of the seats port side.
That's the non-wakeshape way and I love the wake. I don't believe that year had NSS, but you could look into adding something aftermarket if you wanted to avoid listing the boat. There are tons of options for that ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand depending.

What type of aftermarket surf system would be recommended? I'd rather not ride listed if possible. Are you talking about something like the Mission wake shaper? I personally haven't had the best luck with it. Thanks

My cousin has an 07 236 so same hull as what you are looking at. We have had very good success with the home made skate-ramp style surf gate using suction cups to attach as far aft as possible. We weight evenly with 400's over stock, a 750 in the cockpit, and an arrow sack in the ski locker.

Yes the mission is one of the products. I haven't had good success with a homemade version on my 230. I believe Kyle is talking about something like the Ronix 8-3. On the really high end there is go surf assist, but I'm not sure about fit on Nautiques.
You'll want more weight above factory with any of these.

I've heard rumors both ways... Some say dealers wont put NSS on older than 2012... Others say they will... So I'd call your local dealer first. But I agree with the last post... Find a '12 230 with the link and it will work flawlessly right in your screen. I have a '12 with 1100's in each rear locker, great wake, rides un-listed, and even if you aren't interested in doing w2w transfers, having NSS at the dash makes it sooo much easier to switch from regular to goofy footers... Even if they get up and you've forgotten..... You can just push a button and switch on the fly. Not to mention it is adjustable... Not just out vs in.

My last boat was a 07 236 and we put 1100 in each rear locker (so you can lean either way ), a 750 under the front seats, 450 under the port side seats and a 1150 lb fly high L shaped fat sac on the side we wanted to lean at the back corner of the seats, and sometimes we would put an additional 500 in the front with the filler cushion in. The boat would lean so hard that if you turned too quick the vent to the engine compartment on the outside would let water flow in but the surf wake was as good as any I have ever seen! The problem was half my family is goofy and switching sacs was driving me crazy, also the 375hp engine would take 20 seconds or so before the wake could form. We now have a 16 G25 550 and I can not wait to start pushing the limits!
