Fess up everyone - need advice on how to upgrade to a newer Nautique

I own a 2005 SV-211 owner and I love the boat. Please share your best strategies on how to talk the significant other into upgrading to a newer more-modern Nautique.

I am drooling over some of the new 210s that I see available.

Does she enjoy boating and or surfing? If so, take her on a demo and show her how much easier and safer the newer boats are to set up. Mine was wanting to go out a lot during the week after work and after about 5 times of saying no, we aren't surfing because it's too much of a pain to set up she was all in.

Take your wife to the boat show. I took mine to show her a $100K supra that I liked. She told me that if we're going to spend that kind of money then spend a bit more to get the one I really want (so I can't complain anymore.) Didn't work out that way - I still went to the show this year and wanted to upgrade to a 2016 - she didn't go for it this time. haha

When's her birthday or your anniversary??? Think of how happy she'll be when she comes home and sees a new boat in the driveway with a sign that says "For my Dear wife, you deserve the best....Happy Birthday/Anniversary".

Let her her know that you're willing to wash and wax HER boat as necessary and, since it's her boat, she can drive it as much as she wants and you're willing to ride in back (on a board).

It's all about the dealer.

A great dealer will give you the best possible trade on yours... And the best possible deal on the newer boat.

A slimey dealer will try to gouge you on both.

Well, if you surf a lot and she trusts your judgement, the safety factor and user friendliness of NSS alone should be enough. Going to boat shows where there's all these new shiny things in one place can even get a water hating wife like mine to be excited about it, but aren't all of the boat shows over for the year? Personally, I spent a good year+ looking and doing demos with her knowledge. She even went on the last demo. I let her know I was just doing research "for the future when we could afford it."

Fast forward a couple months, I took her out to a nice dinner, brought one of my really nice bottles of wine etc. After sitting down for awhile I said, "I need to tell you something." (long pause) (She later told me that she was worried that I was gonna tell her I was having an affair or something crazy like that). Haha! We've been married 27 years (and I'm as straight as an arrow). I just said, "we're buying a new boat... I'm tired of worrying about you being uncomfortable driving it all listed while I'm surfing and I don't trust anyone else to not dunk the nose while turning around with all that weight. It's a safety decision. Plus, there's way more room, better this, better that, yada yada."

I gotta admit I was taking a chance by doing it that way, but she bought it because she knew how hard it was to drive a listed boat and hated being asked to drive our listed boat. Bottom line is, only you know your wife, what's important to her and what buttons to push without sounding like a used car salesman. There are far more than a dozen reasons why I'd want a new 210 over an older 211. You just gotta figure out which ones might appeal to your wife, present them properly and prove how it will enrich HER life. Good luck!

One last thing is, if there's a project or some other thing she's been after you for, you'd better do it before the words "new boat" ever come out of your mouth. You gotta take care of those "honey do's first. That way, she has no ammunition.

Markj hit the nail on the head. My wife hated driving a listed boat. She also didn't like pulling me fast to ski. I took her on a demo with an NSS equipped boat, told her I wouldn't be skiing behind a G and it was down hill from there.

I guess I am lucky, my wife is the one that always comes home with the new boats. We had an old outboard and it kept breaking so we went on a downhill bike vaction. it was raining one day, I said hey let's go look at some boats. As soon as he saw surfing and a better boarding wake, we came home early and went and bought a new moomba. Had warranty issues( with moomba), I come home one day she says just sell it. Went to the dealer and sold her on the Nautique. We went into the mastercraft store for new board shorts for her and she started climbing in the boats. She jokes that she is not going to surf behind our buddies g23 or she will want get one.

Maybe just take her in the store to look at a new board and she will get side tracked on the new boats and let the salesperson convince her on the safety issue.
i think most women will see through the present scheme. They will buy the safety card, family time, and boat that is no longer reliable. They also understand bigger and more room as most women drive massive SUVs now.

It's amazing just how huge the G's are. They look like they're about to eat whatever is towing them.

I bought my first boat as a Christmas surprise for our family. VERY bad idea. I had a terrible time for 6 months until the weather warmed up and all of the good things I was preaching came to fruition.

My wife is sold on not having to lean the boat and feeling more safe that way. Plus, we both have our expensive habits, so she has her 'Boat' equivalent.

Keep the 05 211 and purchase a newer 08-16 210. Let her make the decision that the 211 will have to go as you cant use them both at the same time. Problem solved..... Oh and by the way the days of leaning a boat for surfing are nearing a close end with the advent of the "ghetto gate".

My wife wanted more comfort and easy to drive. Didnt like the fat sacs sitting around, filling, emptying, etc. While we dont have a G, she did say yes to more hidden ballast, faster pumps, automatic shut off, etc. I say take her to the lake - not boat show- and let her see how SHE can touch a few items on the screen and get set up, while you fix her a nice cool soda. After your done, touch "back to dock" and tell her you now have more time to gaze into her eyes instead of tending to ballast.
