Anyone know how to look up the history of a boat? I have my eye on a G23 that seems to be a smoking deal, almost too good to be true. Is there a hull id lookup one can use?
Any dealer can look up the HIN in Nautique's system. Any that have major issues are documented there, usually.
Please do not PM me directly asking for advice on how to repair your boat. While I would love to help everyone, I simply do not have time to respond to all of the inquiries. Please post your questions on the forum, so that all of our members have a chance to answer.
I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina.
We specialize in Nautique and Correct Craft restorations, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.
If we can be of service to you, please contact us anytime!
Unless the work was done outside a dealership, the dealers should know.
Story: I was interested in a Malibu 247 once. There was a nice one near to me at a good price (not too good a price, so I really didn't suspect much). He told me he thought that there was a little bit of gelcoat work done above the propeller, but that is all he was aware of. I asked for the HIN and called the Malibu dealer. They plug in the number, I can hear computer keys clicking away....pause....then a loud "I know that boat!!!" Turns out that the previous owner whacked so hard on a rack at full speed at Lake Powell that the driver had to be taken away by helicopter (fortunately had a full recovery, I am told) and the rock actually pierced the engine oil pan it hit so hard. Of course, in the salvage process, the hull was filled full of water up to the rubrail. He remembered specifically how the insurance did not want to write it off until they gave them a $70,000 repair bill. This was just as boats were not yet at 100K. He never knew what happened to the boat.
More story: The owner had even posted a thread on the Malibu Crew about several aspects of the repair process. This was discovered after one guy drove half way across the country to buy the boat and then discovered all of this back history. The thread got locked and I am suspect that it was used as part of some small claims litigation proceeedings. So the owner was a total snake. For the most part, I think most any boat that has had a serious claim will have some reporting to a Nautique dealership, but I could imagine it not.
I have heard of Carfax occasionally showing stuff on boats, but would think that even less reliable than contacting a dealer.
Sorry haha. It's a 2013, 209hrs, 450 with full load minus seat heater and Bimini. No upgrades past factory stuff other than the yeti cooler bottle opener haha. I'll most likely be adding a acme 2315 and additional bags plumbed in the back either 750's or 1100's. Also lead in the bow most likely.

Just make sure you test your setup before closing the deal, that sounds like a lot of weight for the 450 even with the different prop. Good luck and enjoy!

According to nyryan that's the go to setup on 1100's but I might start with just 750's and move up from there.
