    Trailering G23

I will be taking my G23 on it's first road trip soon. The dealer said the cover is more for mooring, and not for towing. What do you do to protect it? If it rains on my 8 hour drive, surely the interior will be a dirty mess.

    Thoughts?

Honestly, after pulling my SV211 6 hours home in a rain storm, the interior wasn't that bad. The hull was pretty bad from road grime, but nothing a little car-wash didn't take care of. I do also recommend taping some cardboard across the front of your speakers/mirror/flat surfaces to catch the bugs that will undoubtedly be caught there, and be a nightmare to get off.

The idea with the exception of few covers, is that the whipping and buffeting of the cover at highway speeds against all parts of the boat with dirt/dust trapped acts like sand paper and can cause cosmetic damage. I never put my cover on when traveling even though I am sure many do and do not have an issue. I have gotten caught in the freak rain shower and it will require attention but isn't that big of deal.

I agree with Pe4me... the whipping and flapping during highway speeds will rub against gel coat and can cause some scuffing. I would rather deal with rain than a scuffed boat. No cover on my boat when towing.

if you dont have a dedicated travel cover or even if you do ,if I tow long distances like lake Powell I use a lot of painter tape for any areas of concern, also where i cant protect from bugs,,,, holds up in rain, comes off in a sec with no residue

Saran wrap. Wrap the tower real good. Easy to put on, easy to take off.

I guess I'll go against the grain here and say I always tow with my covers on and have for over thirty years. The newer covers with the ratchet straps fit so good and tight that I don't worry about any issues from towing. Nothing will blow out of the boat either.

Generally you don't want to tow with a cover on. It will chaffe in some areas. Only if it was a really bad down pour would I put it on, pull over and put it in under an overpass. Put it on wicked tight, and keep the speeds under 60. Use the pole system to keep the cover as tight as possible.

I think you are right about the chafing. Saw some when I took my Tige to Lake Ouachita last summer last year. I did get one of those big saran wrap rolls and used it on the tower. Not sure how that would work with this new Nautique, since the sun shade only folds in 1/2. Does anyone remove the bimini?

I tow my G23 all over the east coast -- thousands of miles every year. It is VERY rare for me NOT to tow with the cover on. The new covers from Nautique are incredible. They don't move an inch. I have had zero issues with either my tower-up cover or my tower-down cover. They keep the boat clean, and I have had zero issues with scratched gelcoat over the past three years using these covers.

Hauled my G23 over 800 miles with the OEM factory cover. Not a worry. I'd never tow it more than to the launch without it on. Safe and secure. Ratchet them up good and it will ride intact as far as you want to tow it. Did it with my Mastercrafts as well. I can tell you the Nautique cover is far superior.

When you trailered it, do you put up the two sticks to hold up the center?

I have towed my 2013 210 with cover on 3 times on a 10hr trip to Montana (and back) and always do it with cover on and tower down. It has worked well but the zippers did break. I didn't realize that I needed the antipooling poles installed during trailering. When I learned that the cover was tighter and there was less flap and the new zippers stayed on and didn't break. I love it with cover on.

I travel with my tarp on all the time, tent poles installed, cover is tight no buffeting and no rub marks. Traveling through the mountains about 12 hours 1 way down to Idaho from here, about 10 to Montana. I wouldn't dream of travelling without a tarp, but that's just me. I'm going to lower my tower this year and see if it makes a difference , should be a lot fewer bugs to clean off of it when we get down there. 😊
