    I'm guessing for the same reasons that stern drives don't have mufflers. The water is your muffler.

    Yeah I was surprised when behind our 15 on the first sharp turn that pulled the pipe out of the water. Much louder than I was expecting.

    So, what is used to make the single exhaust exit? Never thought about removing the muffler if I added a surf pipe

    I have the fresh air exhaust I love it and Larry is first class with some of the best customer service I have ever dealt with. I used my boat for a month or so without the pipe when I installed it made a major difference in sound as well as fumes we now hang out on the platform all day.

    I like the look of the factory surf pipe better than the aftermarket versions, so the factory pipe from a 2014 230 will work on a 2013 230 with no problems even when Nautiqueparts says it is only for 2014?

    I don't know if the factory pipe can be retrofitted, but Fresh Air Exhaust can make you one. They're pretty reasonable.
