I am looking at a 1995 SN with the Pro-ski motor in it with 340 hrs. Can anyone tell me the HP of this and wether or not this is a decent motor. I am very familiar with the GT-40, and would much rather have it, but if the price is right, is the Pro-ski a good enough motor? Also, would it be better to convert it to the 4160 carb vs the throttle-body FI that it has. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Pro SKI HP
I believe the Pro-ski is essentially a GT-40 with a carburator, maybe a different cam, I think they make 285hp. That's a great setup as long as it's not the rare underpowered 302. My 1995 GT-40 was great but not that much different from a driving skiability standpoint than my buddies 1992 pro-boss (which I believe is what was renamed pro-ski when they came out with the GT-40). The advantages of the carburator is that it responds a little better at idle speeds I doubt you will miss much power in the small ski boat. The advantage of the FI is turn key starting, from a serviceability standpoint they both have their strong and weak points. From a market standpoint the GT-40 is probably worth $1k more.

RE: Pro SKI HP
The '95 "Pro-ski" engine is a 351W with a 950CFM Holley/PCM hybrid TB fuel injection setup. I have heard conflicting information on HP ratings anywhere from 285 to 308. I have this exact engine in my SN and it pulls hard and smooth with good idle quality.

I believe it is more than that. At least 285, maybe more. It has the red throttle arm which means it has the updated throttle body installed. You will not be disappointed, that engine pulls hard. I have the ACME 422 installed with outstanding results.

If you buy it change the oil and get rid of that Fram filter and never use another one...
Also looks like it has a new alternator, make sure it is a marine alternator with spark arrestor screens.
Not sure what you are paying but I sold my pristing 1995 SN GT-40 with 650 hours, a monster tower and 1500 watt sound system on a nice tandem trailer for $16700 last November. Add/deduct from that price for market value.

This thread on wakeworld has good info and pictures of alternators with the screens.

$13k seems like a great deal if it's decent colors and the rest of the boat is in as nice condition as the motor.

When i bought my 95 SN last summer the orig. owner gave me all his paperwork including the orig invoice. It had the Proski motor and on the invoice where they indicate boat id and engine numbers...it had 270 indicating 270 hp.

BTW: My '95 ProSki engine does NOT have GT-40 heads. Got me thinking...with a 950 cfm throttle body, the better flowing GT-40 heads might make a HUGE improvement in HP, but I wonder what will happen to low end torque, if anything?

Davidf the Proski motor is rated at 260 hp and the Proboss was rated at 285. I cknowe because I set up at least twenty of each motor in the boats our dealership sold back then. The Proboss is the same bottom end(valve cover down to oil pan) as the Gt-40. And if you do not beleive me next time you talk to PCM ask them who Tom Scott is because he taught me almost every thing I know about the PCM engine.

I would think the heads would help the entire power band, but going to too big of a TB might sacrafice the low end torque. I don't know what size is stock, so I don't know how big of a difference the 950 would be.
Personally, I would just start with the heads, and see how that works.
