210 Surf Issue - NSS Software?

We have been surfing a lot with our 2013 210 TE with factory ballast and NSS and have noticed a strange behavior with the surf turning to "white water" and ramping down mid ride. Here is what we are doing: Set the NSS from 0 to 3(usually 2) , speed 9.3 to 10 (usually 9.6) , general 40 to 60 feet of water, get surfing and the wave sets up nicely. Then without warning the wave loses its ramp, becomes whitewater and usually we lose the rider at that point.

I have tried changing speed and once it cleaned up a bit, but generally we cannot fix it before we lose the rider. When we start up again it seems to work fine.

Any thoughts on what is causing this?

do you notice any change is steering when wave washes out? That would be indication that the nss has changed position. if you turn nss on and off while running at surf speed, you can notice it in the steering and wheel position

When we hear the "Beep" and NSS deploys the steering pulls one way or the other based on surfing side. When this "mushy" thing happens there does not seem to be any steering change though. Power also seems the same, with engine sound not really changing.

It really acts like a water depth issue. If its the NSS switching positions... look for the spray off the NSS side changing when this happens. Never had that issue without water depth changing.

I also have a 2013 210 and have not had this issue. I will keep an eye out though

Kind of crazy but last weekend we went out and I engaged everything and the wave looked washed out on starboard side. I tried everything and then clicked the surf button at the far right bottom and noticed the nss was off. I hit it and wow!

Sounds crazy but you might double check that it's on

              Matt,
This has apparently happened a few times on my 2014 230. A couple of times while I was surfing of which I chalked that up to driver error. It did happen once while I was driving and I wasn't adjusting anything at the time. The NSS system fully retracted and the display indicated that it was on. It was not due to water depth changes. I'm not sure, but the speed control may have turned off when the issue occurred. Do make sure you get the throttle past the speed control point...I was doing some gradual starts for the rider and may have stopped moving the throttle lever once the speed control beeped. If it happens again I'll do some further investigation.

                Thanks LipSnap and lucky7,

I a thinking could be the throttle position t being past the control point or being right at the point. I ill experiment with it this weekend and report back

This week end we tested this again and I have come to the conclusion that is you stop pushing the throttle forward when the speed control "beeps" there is a chance that the NSS de-engages if the boat slows based on wind, swell, etc. I am assuming that it reads the slowing as pulling back the throttle. If the throttle is well past the set point this does not seem to happen. Net is to be sure tha he throttle is set well beyond the set point and the problem will not happen.

                  Cheers, Matt
