Plug and play on a 210

Hi Folks. Quick question regarding plug and play ballast for a '11 210. I have the Team edition with the stock hard ballast and am debating whether I want to add more ballast with a plug and play system that piggy backs my current system.

First, how is the surf wake with more ballast? Wanted NSS but Nautique is uncooperative. Are the systems a pain to work with? I don't have an issue with losing the storage but I imagine it takes a while to fill and drain.

The kids are really into wake boarding but I'm not sure if extra ballast is worthwhile for boarding. I'm just an old slalom skier so pretty clueless (as you can tell).

It is a pretty simple process. I did it on my 2012 210, and it worked out great. I believe the new owner is still using that system today.

This system gives you 1,600 pounds above stock.

I'm in the same boat. I have a 06 220 that I want to add a piggyback system. From my understanding many people are going with the 750lbs sac's in the rear over the 400lb. Since the larger bag will fit.

I have the 2012 210 that Jeff did the ballast upgrade to. It is a great way to do it. The wake is terrific - both wakeboard and surf. I do have NSS, but I surfed the boat before I had the NSS installed and it is very good - you just have to list the boat.

Whether or not you need extra ballast really depends on your ability. You'll probably want it for surfing no matter what, but for wakeboarding, it just depends.

We are picking up our 2013 210 Saturday and they are putting the extra 400 pound sacs in the rear lockers but nothing up front. I had the 400 pound bags and they agreed to plumb them in for free as part of the deal. That said, will I be wanting the bow weight if the extra weight will only be used for surfing? We are not good wakeboarders at all so stock is plenty in that regards.

Cedarcreek: In my opinion, yes, you will want bow (or belly) weight for surfing. . .the reason being is that it will lengthen the "sweet spot" of the wave. With all the weight in the back, the wave will be steep and shorter; when the weight is distributed fore and aft, the wave lengthens considerably. However, my set up is different in that we have 750s in the rear lockers piggy backed to the factory ballast tanks.

We will of course full the stock belly tank, which I believe is a larger tank than the tears correct? I guess we will do our delivery ride tomorrow morning and see how it looks.

Set the speed control to 10.5 and then try 11.0 or so and see how it looks. . .

You were right. It did not like all the extra weight in the rear. It did like the surf side extra bag full and just non surf side stock tank full. Imagine it would be real nice with everything full and some weight in the belly.

                      Others use this one:

Plenty of ballast threads talking about the "best" set ups for surfing, etc.

+1 for the wakemakers systems. Comes with all the parts you need. Just added 2100lbs to a 09 210. 750s in back, 650 bow sac up front under the front seats. Very simple system.

We are going to add an additional sac in the ski locker though to help out with the weight distribution. I mainly board, but the owner likes to surf. Works out, because my philosophy is that you cant have too much ballast. If it were my boat, I would have done the 1100 enzo sacks in the back (keeping stock tanks). Plus addt weight up front. Wake would be just about as big as you can get in all situations.

Even with the 750s in the back, the wake is going to be bigger than most people are used to. I've been riding behind a "210" hull for almost 10 yrs, so I've grown to love the vertical wall that it makes. However, its going to take me a little bit to get used to how big and scary the newer/bigger hull makes this wall. I'm actually considering riding a little on the ramp setting to save my knees. Its already broken a rib and my slingshot. I'll try and dig up some pics of the wake.

How do you get a real reading on the ballast levels with a piggy back system and LINC? Everything is on timers it seems so when you empty your piggy bag sacs it thinks it's emptying the hard tanks and I can never tell when the tanks are empty. In fact, think I may have collapsed one of my hard tanks today letting it drain too long. I though if you had a vent line this would not happen?

If you insert 1/4 inch tubes 1 ft into the fill line, through the bag and out the other side and 1ft into the drain line, it will solve the the tanks getting suck down.
