G23 with XS550 motor water intake update

I recently had my boat (G23 with XS550) in the shop for NSS and other warranty repairs and there was a service bulletin to install a large metal scoop over the engines water intake. Has anyone else had this done?

Are the new boats shipping with this from the factory? My concern is that now in reverse how is the engine supposed to suck water? Doesn't seem like a very elegant solution for the caliber of this boat either.

I have a 450 but mine has the big scoop your talking about on it. The back of the scoop is open so water can still get in.

Mine is completely closed at the back ... Does anyone else have the same one fully enclosed at the back?

The RW pump will still pull water in reverse. It just helps to scoop water into the thru hull while on plane so keep from starving the engine of water. Kinda of surprised you haven't seen over-heating problems without it. I thought that was standard for any RW pickup. My 2003 has in and never an issue.

I don't have this scoop on my 550, and I have never had any overheating issues. I am getting the NSS installed next week, so we'll see if White Lake puts it on then.

as you are moving thru the water i would guess that increases flow/water pressure in...but why did they do this when so so many boats don't need it?

I was told it was a warranty issue for all G boats with the 550 motor to require it. Do other people have the same intake being installed on their boats?

I think my G25 was delivered with it. Will have to confirm this weekend.
