I'm seriously looking at a G as well.. I would not go smaller than the 450 unless you think you'll never fill the ballast.

Let's put it this way...
Buxton gets the 343 in all of the 230s that they get for stock and very rarely order a 409. All the G23s they are getting have at least the 450.
If you could get away with the 409 and be happy, Phil would be the first one to do it and that ain't happening.

Look...We are trying to help you with all the considerations, I was just trying to save you a thousand bucks or so for crappy equipment/un-needed wiring.....Sorry for "hijacking" your thread (insert thick sarcasm here).....Originally posted by higginalske5 View PostWell...I guess I can abandon this question. Sounds like a lot of opinions from boat dealers and others who have not actually been in the G with a 409. I would see if there is a significant noticeable difference in hole shot and ability to cruise with full ballast between the 409 and the 450 before throwing down over 4K for an "advertised" extra 41 horsepower.

Didn't the thread ask for opinions? Good luck finding one with the 409 to test yourself....I do know of a dealer who has been in one with the 409....They are not ordering any....I have been in both the 450 and 550, my decision was going to be between those two...Going more apples to apples - If you have ever been in an extremely SLAMMED 230 with the 409, you understand that the 409 would not be the most desirable choice.....Originally posted by sja View PostSounds like a lot of opinions from boat dealers and others who have not actually been in the G with a 409. If there are only going to be a few out there in the country that a customer orders, if even only based on perception, what do you think the re-sale is going to look like? I'll spend the extra $4k to not get killed or take a year to sell when I try to turn it in a year or two...Current Nautique: 2013 G23

there is a g23 at the dealer up here in seattle/tacoma. it has a 409. i haven't been in one with a 450 but, my wife was commenting on how loud the boat was with the 409. i didn't really notice it that much because we have a 409 in our current 230 and i'm used to how it sounds when we have a lot of people in it and the extra bags full. she thought it was really loud. i noticed that it took it quite a bit longer to plane than my 230 and the g23 had about 6 people with stock ballast.
the dealer also told me that if you didn't use premium fuel in the 450 it would de-tune the HP according to what they believed from PCM. this further complicates the decision...the more i read from everyone, the more confused i get. dang.2013 G23 550 NSS

That may not be true, at least not if you believe what you read on PCM's site:Originally posted by northwestwater View Postthe dealer also told me that if you didn't use premium fuel in the 450 it would de-tune the HP according to what they believed from PCM. this further complicates the decision...the more i read from everyone, the more confused i get. dang.
