    Teak Transom Saver

Does anyone have any pics of their teak transom savers they can share?

I am having issues with the short planks closest to the transom separating. I have glued several times to no avail.

I figured if I install a teak transom save I can reinforce this area and protect my transom at the same time.

    Thanks guys!

This is what I have on my 98. I ordered it from Teak World. It is attached using wood screws from the bottom. I skipped the spacers for aesthetic reasons. It does the job without them.

pardon me for asking but I dont understand what these "transom savers" are used for.....picture #1 I really dont understand - you leave this clipped on during using the boat or in storage, and for what purposed does it serve ?

sorry, cut myself off before finishing....I read up on this and see what your trying to accomplish (I just couldnt cover up the back of a beautiful nautique to try and avoid a few scratches - Id personally ask every guest on the boat to be careful while on the platform first) - - Im not trying to be flippant, but I have been on and around ski boats for the better part of 30 years and had never known this to be an issue/problem...Hmm, guess you really do learn something new every day.

Now next summer I'll probably be Mr. Eagle eye watching to see if anyone is damaging the transom area while back there !! LOL - (thanks for making me more neurotic about keeping her in perfect condition...LOL)

I'd consider (and may next year) putting on the 3M film.

Now that the kids are getting older and the boards are getting bigger...might be time for some protection.

Mine doesn't cover up much of the back of the boat, if any. But it is helpful when a skier pivots a bit and the end of the ski slides across the platform toward the transom. 1/2" of teak higher right by the transom does great at keeping that ski away from the gelcoat. I think it looks nice and is hardly noticeable unless you're looking for it.

The reason for the transom cover is more for wake boards they are laced up while on the platform . Also when wake surfing if the rider falls backwards its possible to shoot the surf board forward and hit the rear of the boat .

I think it would even be less noticeble if the aft portion of it was trimmed to match the outline of the aft of the platform....and lose the two sharp corner. It might even "set off" the transome in a very appealing way.

But no-can-do for those of us with the modern composite platform.

PS - that boat is awesome looking.

                      Airtool,

I have thought about the film as well but feel a good hit from a ski edge may slice the film and still nick, gouge or scratch the gelcoat, anyone with experience on the film? Agree better than nothing but with a fiberglass platform, has anything else been tried that may be more effective than the film? I like the protector that nautiquehunter's wife made but with a 196, harder to secure. Anyone else out there come up with an idea for a fiberglass platform, perhaps the teak protector fastened to the fiberglass? Might take some modifications/reshaping of the teak and I'm not real sure how it would look. Thanks for ideas.

I installed the film on my transom 3 seasons ago and it has held up very well. We have taken a few board hits on it and it has not cut or peeled it. The nice thing about the film is you can not tell it is there until you are close up. Plus if/when it does get marked up, you just replace it with new.

agreed...that small raised piece of teak not noticable at all, kind of cool accent....as for the black draped piece, you're right, I guess it hanging down while boarding/surfing is better than a big nasty scratch.

I also like the idea of the thick 3M film, I have this put on all of our cars, SUV's etc and it does a great job - never thought of it for the boat - guess I'll be haughling her to the customization shop this spring for some 3M install.

                          Merry Christmas All !!!

I use the 3M film on the back/top of my 200's. Eliminates scratches from the rope.

Here is a teak one I made years ago for my '03.
