Isn't there a master code for dealers to use? So anybody that has ever worked at a dealer knows how to start any boat with a keypad? Or do the dealers get around it some other way?

There are master codes that dealers can use. It's similar to what MC does/did (at least when I sold them) - each model in a given year uses the same key. For example, every '98 Prostar 190 used the same key, so we could service them regardless of having the key or not. I was extremely surprised when I learned this, to say the least, and hopefully they don't do this anymore. I also hope I didn't just let a huge cat out of the bag! Shhh, don't tell anyone!'08 196LE (previous)

i figure a key to a boat on a trailer is worthless. somebody stole my nautique key out of the cupholder in my jeep as they swiped my change. it took me all of 20 minutes to pull the key cylinder out of the nauti and knock the pins out of it. now anything that fits in the keyslot will start the boat. anybody with even a little mechanical knowledge could do the exact same thing in a short time in any garage they might pull the trailer into.Originally posted by swc5150 View PostThere are master codes that dealers can use. It will show up one day, and then sue the bastards that got caught with it. If you buy a stolen boat you know its stolen. Insurance will sue them too so get there quick, first come first serve.2008 210 SAN TE (Moonraker Yellow over Midnight Blue)

Not that it is a whole lot different but there are currently 7 MC keys. There are something like 16 keys total since the late 80s. I worked at a MC dealer with a big parts department.
And yes, they are stamped with the key code...

No conclusion other than GEICO settling my claim quick without any hassles and for more than I paid. Just had a dream last night about finding the boat! I asked GEICO to notify me if it ever turns up.. which I doubt it will. Funny thing is in colorado you have to actually send in a copy of the police report to where you register the boat or they will never have any way of knowing the boat is stolen.. doesn't really making sense and I wonder how many other states are like this? Doesn't seem like there is really a system to keep track of stolen boats nationally. It also doesn't help that colorado does not title boats. Easy money for a thief. My next boat will have a hidden GPS tracker on it!
