This is first year that I haven't drained my block. I just got my new house and the boat's sitting in an attached garage, so I'm not too worried about it.

On a side note, I'm from Illinois and find people hilarious when it comes to winter weather down here. I understand lots of ice, but sleet and snow when the ground is still warm.

the reason for the concern is because down South doesn't have the resources to clear stuff like up North. It doesn't make sense to invest in the equipment for the one or two storms we get a year. And as for boats, I would imagine everybody up North protects for winter somehow. However down here we are on the border where some may and some may not. Those that may not get caught every once in a while.

LMAO. It was 36 degrees when I was draining the block and heater. We'll be back at it in a few weeks when it's back in the 60s. I decided to leave it in the boat house rather than move it to the garage.

Oh, and on my way to the lake, it was snowing as hard as I've seen it snow in the mountains. I was really surprised at that. And then 2 hours later the sun was shining and it was beautiful.

We had a 3ft snowman up by noon. He was wearing a BarefootCentral hat so I won't post his pic. (note to self: order PN gear for christmas presents and future snowmen)

I went and drained my block and layed on an electric blanket. At 3 pm, ambient was 35 and my stall was 41. Manifolds felt like beverage cans from the fridge.

I put a in/out thermometer with min record and time. I'll compare to the neighbors wunderground tomorrow. I also put a cup of water next to the door. I may go early in the morning to see if the cup froze.

It did clear out, but that clearing of the moisture will allow the temp to drop into the mid 20s. current dew point is 25.

                All is well Saturday morning.

No ice in the barn. Low temp in the barn was 27 and the cup of water didn't freeze.

The nearest wunderground station showed an ambient low of 22.

Shane - how did you fare?

I don't think global warning is only about higher temperatures. It's about a higher averages, with larger extremes. So it's also gonna be colder in parts of the world.
                    For the rest I think it's a lot of ### ;-) .

                    No pun intended.

                      Mississippians too!

We've been dealing w/lows in the teens and low 20's for a few days but whats coming is going to be worse.

                      19 degrees now w/high of 36 today.
Overnight low of 19 w/high tomorrow of 31 and AM Rain/Snow (ice prob more likely).
                      High Friday of 31 w/low 19 and high Saturday of 29 w/low of 16.
We are facing 3 days w/temps not going above freezing and I can't remember the last time this happened here.

I had decided not to winterize due to our climate and just run the boat once per month instead of letting it set up for 4 or 5 months. Currently 19 degrees outside, 48 degrees in the garage, and 75 degrees in the motor box with two 75W utility lights going. The next 4 days will test the garage temp but even if it doesn't get below freezing, I will run antifreeze through her next year. Even with a note stating "Keep Garage Doors Down" on the door my oldest daughter's boyfriend left the garage door up last night when he got here, so its just not worth the worry.

I totally agree. We have had really strange winters the last couple years. Quite a few of the guy that always claim to not need to worry about freezing, are suddenly very worried. It is so easy, and so safe.
At the very least drain them.

Best of luck to all of you.

This is my issue. The kid's automatic response when going into the garage is to hit the button!

Either the boat or the garage. Same result.

                                Brrrr !!!

Stopped for coffee this morning. On the way out, I pulled up to the gas pump to dump some trash...

...and noticed that the bucket of water with the windshield brush in it was frozen solid.
