What if I have a 2006 TBW and want to change to ZOff? I've heard if I lie and say it is an 07 I can save money on the upgrade.

Is it possible on 06 TBW and how much does it cost?

Can't be done according to PCM when I called. This was after Zero Off referred me to them. Oh well as they say

ZO / PP issue

I don't think the dust has settled yet regarding tournament use of ZO and/or PP. I have an 07 SN w/ both systems. I requested a waiver to use my boat in my Sept tournament - it was granted. I understand that USAWS is expanding the "two-season" rule due to the lack of promo boats. I don't think that PP is completely out of the picture. In Europe and other parts of the world governed by IWSF, you can set a world record behind a (for example) a 98 Ski Nautique w/ PP 6.5ng. Why can't that occur stateside? Because USAWS dictates what boats can be used in record tournaments. Why? Because they receive compensation from the boat manufacturers to "approve" their boats each year. Eliminate the need for current or prior year boats to pull tournaments and this solves one of the problems. The selling of current year promo boats will go in the tank as a result. Therefore, the current system is unfair to most but provides a market for promo boats. A revised system would open up the tournament scene to more boats but would damage the current promo program (which is on life support as we speak).

I know of someone who has an '06 196 with ZO. He dropped an '08 engine into the boat and sold the old engine in order to get ZO. It's all about $$$.

According to ZO (when I talked to them a year or so ago) only the early 2006 PCM's cannot use ZO. If you have a late year 2006 you may be in luck.

WOW big dollars I don't think the wife would bite on this idea.

I think that skidim lists a bobtail PCM EX-343 complete engine for $7890 on their website. Then of couse you'd have the cost of and/or your time removing the old engine and dropping the new one in/wiring. Plus last I checked the ZO system costs around $1600. So if my math isn't too crazy that would put the pricetag at $9490 without instalation. The guy I know who has done this sold the old engine too off set some of te costs. Seemes to me to not be worth the hassel just to have ZO on your boat.

This thread cracks me up. In the old days we practiced behind random boats with random drivers and no speed controls. When we got to the tournament you had no idea which boat would be pulling your event until the chief boat driver made his decision usually as you were walking toward the starting dock. Of course Mens II events were being won with performances at 32 or 35 off. Fast forward 30 years, we can't even practice behind a boat with small differences. As a side note the promo programs had life threatening issues back then too. Unfortunately, there is not big market for today's highly specialized tournament boats.
