Lvnspeed. Feel your pain and wish you the best.
    Point.
What difference does it make if they get the keypad and are able to turn over the engine? Seriously, suppose, best case, the boat starts? Are you going to accept this boat back and move on facing known, resale value, and unknown losses?

Talk to your Lawyer and have him get you a check for the value of the boat and move on. Your current boat needs to be stripped bare and rebuilt from scratch and a keypad will be the least of it.

    Good luck.

agree with j2, no way this boat gets fixed, insurance is just making them jump through the hoops.. might be a good idea to talk to an attorney though.

I can't imagine that motor is worth a penny now. It doesn't take long for corrosion to take over after left in the open air. I'd be surprised if the electronics survive over time(the starter certainly will not). You would have been better off to leave it on the bottom until they could get it fixed ...lol. Seriously, sorry to hear about your misfortune. I would get an attorney as others have suggested.
Even if you don't end up using him, spend a few bucks to get some advise, or have him draft up a "courtesy" letter letting them know he may be getting involved. My guess is that the insurance company wants to fix it because they know it's now worthless and won't bring any money at an insurance auction. Ins companies will take the route that nets them the smallest loss at the end of the claim. If they could sell that boat for 15k+ at an auction, you'd already have your check. I do not have State farm Ins on my boat, but I have it on everything else I own. I have never had any bad experiences with them and one of my claims could have certainly seemed "suspect" . They never questioned it (not that I cared because it was legit, it just looked really bad and I never could have proved it was legit of they made me). Good luck and keep good records of your communications with everyone. Make sure you can show an accurate time line of events if needed.

I think there's a lot of information on here telling the insurance company to total the boat and get him down the road on here. I'd pull it up in his office!

I am leaning to Boat US they have a stated value policy . I also have a 89 Supra in mint cond.
Most ins co.s will only insure it to 6k NADA boat value. I wont even get a quote from State Farm.

Progressive also has a stated value policy - works well for an older boat with a lot of modifications, you can state whatever you like as the value.
How 'bout a little reverse action...

My insurance company, USAA, has stopped writing boat policies and has now partnered with Progressive. I recently insured my "new" to me '99 NSS with Progressive and stated the value at $23k. Could I get that in this market, maybe not. But, that is what I feel the value of the boat should be given the purchase price and improvement/work I have put into it and the trailer. Stated policies are the way to go IMHO.

I have Boat US and love that I can tell them a value to unsure my boat, trailer, and gear for. I haven't had to claim anything yet and you do have to pay a small annual membership fee to them (like $20) but that also gets you discounts to the merchadise. The story may change if and when I ever claim something, but I'm satisfied with Boat US.

I have a 08 210 I insured it with Boat US per a recmendation from a CC Fan member. He works at a marina
and said they pay the claims without any BS. I just received a notice from Sentry who has insured my 89 Supra
for the past 15 plus years. They wont renew the policy unless I insure all my cars and house with them.
I never had a claim so I don't know how they would handle one. I got a quote from BoatUS for the Supra $215 for 14k coverage sounds good to me.

I called USAA circa July 07 and ordered insurance over the phone for my soon-to-be-purchased 2006 06. (Good thing I called the day before....coverage didn't start until midnight just prior to the tow home.)

Anyway, got 'er all done and the policy showed up in a progressive envelope. So far so good. Had I known that, I probably would have gone with skisafe. It bugs me the insurance paperwork is in my wife's name since she has the USAA connection.
