    Is that a wakecraft tower?

I think the concept is great, having the speakers built in the tower would be real nice if the acoustics are solid. I know nothing about the fit and finish so I'm extremely reluctant to give a thumbs up or thumbs down.

You said you like the idea of looking different and as long as it is a quality product that will last I say here is your golden opportunity to turn some heads and keep people guessing. I wouldn't worry about all negative comments you have received, from my experience most Nautique owners are very conventional and shy to step out of the box, and this is coming from a guy who fits that mold by owning the same 1990 sport Nautique since it was brand new; but I will admit those Malibu towers have grown on me.

What model boat is this possibly going on?

I think most is already being said overhere...

      1. Does it fit on your boat?! Measure the beam!
      2. These type of towers (with the built in speakers) are not the most durable ones. Malibu only delivered them for 2 years of so. not anymore.
      3. I don't know if an older Nautique will handle all the stress of the tower on 1 place. The 2009 are reinforced on that point.
      4. I drove behind/in a Malibu couple of times, these towers are great for the driver (visibility), but every time when turning the rope would get caught in the board racks (you need to learn turning a little different) and the passengers visibilty is a lot less then normal.
      5. My opinion... This is a Malibu tower, if you want something different, go with the newer style Rosswell towers... But be sure if it will fit on a not 2009 Nautique!!

      Good luck with your choice!

You'll need a set of batmobile bubble winshields to go along with it.

I called Nautique yesterday and they said a 2003 196 has plenty of strenght to support this tower.

Yes according to the sellers measurements it will fit my boat. I even double checked with Nautique.

I hear you guys about the rope; I can live with that.

IMHO I think the tube towers like cheep they look like an after thought not something that was planned to be on the boat. I like the way the speakers are part of the tower not bolted on later.

I plan to paint the tower to match my boat (red and black) if I buy it. Plus for the price I am paying I cant even pay for 1/4 of Roswell, Flight Control, or Roswell.

Like I said before I am not a good skiier or wakeboarder. I need something to keep the rope away from the passengers in the back seat when we are out skiing. I got the boat to slow the speeds down on the lake. My last boat went 108 mph and it was scaring my wife. Now that my wife is pegnant with our first child, I needed more of a family boat.

Does anyone know of any issues structualy with these towers?

There are obvious reasons already stated on why you are getting such a good deal.

I think Kev said it pretty well, most Nautique owners like the old school looks and it takes awhile for them to like new things. That being said, I think that's ingrained in the type of boats we have, we went with the best built, longest tradition of excellence, etc. so probably not the hippest, jump on a fad group by design, eh? Anyway, those towers do look neat and I think the problem with them not making them anymore was they had trouble finding a consistent carbon fiber supplier to make the towers, from what I understand. I don't know if inconsisent availability meant they had to sacrifice quality to get the product rolled out, but they don't make them now. (Read into that what you want.. and it's not for a lack of people who want them... ) If you're getting a great price on it, it may be worth checking out. It's certainly not a flight control tower, by any means, but the people here LOVE the flight control, and I do too, but they are pricey for a New Dimensions, or OEM. Anyway, I hope it works out for you, but you will certainly ALWAYS encounter a lot of resistance from a hard core Nautique community by asking if you should put signature Malibu parts on your boat. It's viewed as a crime around these parts, almost treason.

I do not know of any structural issues, but I do know not to get caught in the rain with them. Water will fill up the speaker part of the tower.

Also, this tower fits on a 98" beam, the 196 has a 90.25" beam. The base of the feet are also pretty wide so check that out.

I think if you can pull it off it would look good. definately be different thats for sure. I say as long as it fits the boat and you like it, then go for it.

This idea reminds of that quote from Dumb and Dumber

Harry: One time, we successfully mated a bulldog with a Shih-Tzu.
                      Mary: Really? That's strange.
Harry: Yeahah... we called it a bul)$&*t.

Now that is a hilarious analogy....a bulldog with a Shih-Tzu. That begs the question - which one is the Malibu?

This forum is probably not the best place to get an unbiased opinion on aftermarket competitor looking modifications to your Nautique. We tend to lean traditional if you haven't guessed that already. I like what one poster said, he equated this to treason! I wouldn't go that far but I never do like the idea of screwing around with perfection. Then again, it's your boat, your money, and your market value.

Speaking of market value, if you ever need to sell your boat, you will significantly reduce your buyer pool with this tower. "Generally", people looking for a Nautique are traditionalists like us in this forum. If you think of us as your potential market, you kind of get the idea on the reception you'd receive when trying to sell your boat with that monstrosity on it. My $0.02.

do you plan on owning that boat forever? what if you got into financial trouble and needed to sell it quickly. out of the 25 responses to your post, you have a small sampling of how many people would buy your boat at market value for a similar CC.... zero. financially, it is stoopid. if anything it will take away from the value of the boat, regardless of how well it functions/looks.

So it should fit right? I am still going back and forth with it due to the new look of the Nautique Towers on the 216.
