That would make sense since boats are worth about $25k less than they were a year ago.

AuMDLST, In a normal economy you'd only do that if you were fairly certain your company's shares would be declining and then staying down for a long period (or at least past the expiry date of the option). Options are long term incentive payments - eg, you dear employee, make the company do well and you'll reap some of the benefits. Their purpose is to align the objectives of the employees with those of the investors. Puts would be contrary to this.

For options to go under water like this is very rare, especially for companies who are performing well. Even with perfect knowledge, which apparently you had when nobody else did, it would only make sense to hedge near-term expirations. And then, for that to work you'd need to have foreknowledge of what was to come significantly before those making markets in the puts you'd want to purchase.

Finally there are both potential legal ramifications, fiduciary ramifications, and PR issues for many execs and officers of hedging their own company's LTI options.

I've talked to several dealers on the phone and most seem to be knocking off around $5,000 on the 09's. More than that for left over 08's...

This economy is going to get worse. Our country is in more debt than we were in the great depression, the only reason this is not a "depression" is only 11 million are out of work, not 25 million.

I just bought a 2008 210 and yes there were some great deals. I was told the 210s
are gone now some other models are still available. As for the economy it wont get any better by constantly talking it down. When I pass by the malls they are packed
traffic is as bad as ever people are still moving on with their lives. One thing you
have to consider when comparing the depression to now is the amount of people
has more than tripled. I think we are better off than reported and now that the
darling of the media is in the white house I am sure its only a matter of time before
the spin shifts to saying what a good job he has done.

Every expert analyst states that this economy has not hit bottom yet, even Obama publicly announced it. Japan was in the same scenario as the US a while back, and it took them roughly 10 years to recover. I think Obama's stimulus plan is ridiculous giving tax-paying workers $15 extra a check until they hit their cap. If he wants to boost consumer spending, he should give it in a lump sum like Bush's administration did.

The boat manufacturers are going to have to rely on cash reserves (if any) to survive this, and the dealers are pretty much screwed as they try to survive solely on their service departments.

Rather than the select few individuals that receive options affecting the industry, I believe the fact that non top level corporate individuals are finding it very difficult to access loans is exactly what is and will affect the market. Take for example that all major US and Japanese car manufacturers are laying off by the thousands. GM is currently weighing its options, Chapter 11, due to the inability to come up with a viable plan for the use of monies already received.

wouldnt it be cheaper, easier, and possibly quicker to just give every tax paying american citizen 100,000 to wipe out their debt up to that point, and keep the rest as long as its monitered and spent on things like utilities and food, american car...im a hard core independent and dont believe in welfare. i'm just saying there are less than 200 million tax payers. it would be cheaper and if it didnt work we wouldnt be out a trillion dollars.

Exactly Gride - we would be out 20 Trillion (using 200 million for calculation purposes).

im from canada , 23 , french, not very educated but here is how I see it...

If I were to tell my friends THE ECONOMY IS BADDDDDDDD keep your money....is that gonna make the wheel go 'round? call me crazy, but I don't think it would help. All of your media (cnn etc) are making shiload of money in SCARING the F out of you guys... Why can't the allmighty Obama tell the these fools to STFU and try to stimulate the **** thing in their own way... ? I don't mean to judge your country or the way it's ran BUT the way I see it is like instead of building a bridge to cross the river they are trying to build jetpacks to fly over. the key to succes is simplicity...starting at the bottom...and to me, starting at the bottom means being POSITIVE to make people feel CONFIDENT to purchase stuff again. Even the ''unnecassary'' stuff...because the ping pong table builder or the boat salesman is gonna buy a **** car, buy food, a TV etc...catch my drift? it's a big wheel you know oh and I won't get into the war aspect of the US, some people might get offended.

anyways, please excuse the poor grammar but I need to vent a bit

                    cliff notes:
                    keep on buying
                    be happy

I'll tell you what is SCARING me, the fact Sirius/XM filed for bankruptcy today. If somebody doesn't snatch them up at 10 cents a share, i'm going to be super pissed off. It's going to suck summertime without it.

As for Obama, I think he represents the good in this country and tells everyone what they want to hear, but at the end of the day, he has to walk the walk and make things happen.

I guess they shouldn't have given Stern half a billion.

Someone will jump in to keep them afloat. No way they can just cut it off with the large customer base out there.

You're right about the customer base and everything, but i know they have a lot of debt and nobody really likes baggage. I think Directv should try to make an offer if they have the cash to do so.

No offence taken from our northern friends I think you see it clearly. The fact is
this whole economy crash could have been averted . All the bad mortgages in 2008
could have been bought out for 400 billion and the 2009 mortgages for 200 billion.
The greed of the unrestricted banking system [Thanks Bill Clinton] is only outweighed by the useless politicians need to stay in office at any price. Our government needs an enama. The economy would recover faster if the government would stop helping.

Had the liberal press reported all the facts on Mr Obama's background I doubt he would have made it past the primary. I have spent most of my life in IL and Mr Obama is a Daily machine politician from the most corrupt state with the highest tax. He represents himself and his friends hopefully we will survive his administration. :|
