First and foremost, Im all for making a buck as well here and there, but when it comes to Nautiques and we are all looking for boats that come to this forum, do not appreciate people "flipping" Nautiques here just to drive the prices up. I found a Nautique I wanted to buy, made an offer to the dealer and low and behold, i got an email in for the forums of a guy "selling" the exact same boat (no price) just that he had the boat... which he didnt. He was basically going to buy the boat for thousands less than I was, then resell it to me or the highest bidder. I dont mind paying a "finder's fee" if someone happens to know someone who is selling a boat, or helped connect the buyer/seller. But outright flipping our cherished Nautiques is bad business. Or if you are doing this, please be upfront and say what you are doing, state your business, what your cut is and maybe its worth doing the deal with you.... but dont come into the Nautiques forums and try to swindle us buyers (or the sellers!). I wont say his name, but feel free to PM me if you like.

i dont see how anyone could do this and not get destroyed in taxes, only dealers can avoid the sales and registration taxes.... but then they pay inventory taxes. Let that boat be sold and taxes not paid... then there could be a tax lien on the boat.

Confused who owns the boat... the dealer or the wanna be middle man?

And if this happened to me.... I'd just go to the dealer and request the lower price and lets get this done. What am I missing here?

I read on here that he is a dealer but not a retail dealer.
I called him on a boat once and he said he will not sell me the boat unless i come and looked at it (i agree)and test drive it because someone insisted that he sell them one sight unseen and then came back on him after he reluctantly sold it to them.

Sounds a bit like a broker. I had one of them contact me when selling one of my previous boats offering far less than my price. Said they would buy it sight unseen right away. Had an extremely strong / pushy negotiating style. It was a turn off for sure...

I'm not sure I understand a couple of your points. First, why would you not want the prices to be driven up or kept high? I got a great deal on the last 3 Nautiques I've owned. I made money (after a little elbow grease and hard work) on the last two I sold. Good for me! My 2002 SN I have now I bought at a great price and while I plan to keep it for a while the hope is that the price remains high so I maximize my return if I ever sell it. Do you want to lose money when you sell your boat? It happens but I don't know anyone that would intentionally want to do so. That's bad business.
As for the "flipper", sounds like a shady broker but it also sounds like you have figured out his sell and so if he hasn't already bought the boat than why not just go to the selling dealer and buy it before he does? The dealer would be stupid to sell to a broker at a lower price than they could sell to a retail buyer. If the broker gets to it first and purchases the boat then that's just the way it goes. However, the broker shouldn't be coming on here and offering to sell a boat he does not have. THAT is shady.
My rule of thumb is if I am looking at a boat online in say CL or ebay or whatever and I am actually interested in the boat, the last place I am going to post about it is a public forum. That just opens it up for everyone else that sees the post. You're advertising the great deal you just found. Not sure if that was the case in your matter but how did the broker know you were interested in the boat and then PM you?

Not sure I totally understand...But wouldn't you be more disappointed with the dealer then the broker. The dealer would know - or should know - that the broker is going to flip the boat. And if the dealer is already working with you then the dealer is the problem.

Not sure I could blame the broker for buying a boat speculative. You say low and behold you got an email. I wonder if the dealer tipped off the broker that you were interested. In which case this get's real weird. Like maybe the dealer's sales person at the dealer is getting bucks from the broker, and the dealer company is the one getting screwed.

I actually found the boat and contacted the dealer.. and made an offer before the shady guy PM'd me here. thats where it got strange for me.

Well, I think I found out why the broker contacted you.... You asked for it. If the boat in question was online then he obviously found it also and probably had no idea you had already contacted the dealer. Still wrong of him to try and sell a boat he didn't have possession of. But if you post things like this on an open forum you have to kind of expect to get solicitations from brokers.

Looking for a 210. Have up to $30k to spend if your boat is clean and well documented. I used to own a 84 and 92 SNOB and would love to own a Nautique in the 2000's. I have owned a Nautiques for the past 15 years and have cared for my last two boats better than their previous owners. I typically do all my own mechanical work and only use the dealer if its some weird item. You will be glad to know your boat will be well cared for by my family and I.

And if I find out that brokers are contacting members of this site via PM, they will be banned from this site. That clearly violates the terms of use!

And, as I understand it, the person we're talking about here is not a BROKER, he is a marine DEALER.
