View Full Version : 2000 teleflex to Faria Conversion
Well I just bit the bullet and upgraded to the Faria gauges in my 2000 SN. They look really nice and seem to work fine. The instructions for the conversion with PP Pro is really easy and took me just under 2 hours. If you don't have PP you need to mount a paddlewheel through the hull. Its hard enough to cut perfectly good wires in the dash of a 25K boat.. I draw the line at drilling holes in the hull. I have attached a picture with the new gauges

I installed a paddlewheel on my previous boat. Yes, making a hole in the hull was a big decision but it is not a big deal. Just make sure you measure twice, cut once. You want to make sure you are at a perfectly flat surface and have enough clearance on the inside of the hull. Also, the paddlewheel should be installed in a location where the water flow coming from the bow of the boat will not be disrupted. At the end, it was very easy and the end result was great.
Before making the hole in the boat, I took a piece of wood (4 x 1 piece used on decks) and drilled a hole the size recommended on the paddlewheels instructions. I did this just to "warm up". And even though it seems logical, make sure you have the right size tools. You certainly don't want to make the hole too big. If you make it too small, it will be a pain to make it larger.

Looks good, how much for the kit.... tach and speedo...
I paid about 250.00 Thats cheaper than one gauge. CC is discounting it because of the problems with the Teleflex gauges
I'll try to do this step by step. The directions are first rate. The 3 things that may be gotchas are the light on my speedo is red and everything else is blue. If you have a 12V source you might want to check that before you button everything up. Also make sure you set the Tach for 8cyl on the back, you can't miss the switch. The directions say to attach the purple wires to the IGN terminal but my gauges said BAT.. Same thing. Cover the steering post so you don't scratch the console. PM me if you have any questions The whole thing took me about an hour and 45 minutes.

Rick, did the computer (ECM) load the engine hours on your tach or do you now have a tach with 0 hours on it? I don't know if the tach has just a display for the info the computer has stored or if it actually has an hour meter on it.
This upgrade abandons the old Teleflex computer. The tach just has an hour meter in it. As a result the tach starts at 0. My boat has a mechanical gauge so this is really no big deal for me.

Rick, are you saying the tach and spedo have a red backlight? Is the light bulb red? Looks like we can swap it out if that's the case. I'll figure it all out soon, I'm waiting for mine from MidOhio.
Yes I think M2O has blue bulbs. Since I don't run it at night it's no big deal. Also I'm about 3MPH fast with the adjustment all the way down. I'm waiting for the answer from CC on what to do next.

Good Post, but this does not tell me how to wire up the speedo. Your wiring directions are just for the Tach. Help! I can follow these same directions, as far as the BAT, GND, and Blue wire for lights, but what about wiring the sensor part?

Thanks for the help those instruction you sent were not the same as what I recieved from WCCC. Your's were more specific to the Nautique and more detailed.
Long Story Short, I will post a paddle wheel test procedure because it was not my wiring that was incorrect. Ends up the PP Paddle wheel has failed and that is why I could not seem to get the Faria Speedo working!! Took me three days to get to the bottom of the boat to figure that out...
After test running the boat and still no speedo, I put the paddle wheel input directly back into the pp black box.(Back to original) No speed on the PP display either!
Called PP and spoke with a great person there who walked me through testing the paddle wheel and sure enough it has gone bad. Coincidence I guess that my paddle wheel was not working when I tried to do this gauge update. I have not used the boat much over the past 12 months and may not have noticed that the paddle wheel was not working. Since the PP runs on RPM, it really doesnt matter and obviously did not come to my attention.

I am looking at changing out the gauges on a 2002 to the same ones on a 2003...
Both are the limited editions.
Both have the Excalibur.
Does the 2002 Excalibur support the MEFIIV Gauges?
Faria is making the new gauges, and the gauges on the Faria site look pretty nice, and have the same features as the 03 and up boats.
So, the question is, will it work, or am I dreaming?

Just installed the Faria replacement gauges and paddle wheel in my 200 SN. It runs about 5-8 MPH slow when checking it with the GPS. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? And yes I have the potentimeter adjusted all the way up.
Thanks..

Same problem here...
Upgraded mine recently also, mine runs about 3 MPH slower when I compare with my GPS at 22mph. Potentimeter is adjusted all the way up. I just emailed Faria and asked them.

I emailed Faria about the problem and here is the Email I received. As John mentions... I am going to drop the switch position down one step and see if it solves the problem.
Trey,
Here are some basics, please feel free to share this info.
Analog instruments have a 2% accuracy factor. Meaning at best, they will be off by 2% of the scale they are reading. So for example on a 50mph speedometer, they can be off by apx 1mph.
Digital instruments have a 1% accuracy factor. So on a 50mph speedo they will be off by .5 mph
Gps speed is similarly accurate, but only after the boat/vehicle has move some distance so the averaging can take place and render the GPS speed.
Additionally, with a paddle wheel sender for the speed info, if the placement is not ideal, or if there is some debris in the wheel, that too can have an effect on the readings.
You may have noticed that on the back of the speedometer, there is a 6 position switch. The potentiometer adjustment is a micro adjustment knob with limited effect within each switch position on the speedometer. We suggest you drop the switch position down one step. Meaning if you are in position 3 for example, drop it to position 2, then use the potentiometer to fine tune the speedo. Repeat as needed in another switch position until you have the accuracy you seek.
Hope this helps
John
