I'm currently in the market for a 2016-2018 G23 and one of my desired features is the Elite sound system with the WaveFront speakers and additional sub. Has anybody ever added these to a boat that did not have the Elite option installed at the factory? Are the WaveFront speakers even available for purchase?

Yes, it's been done before. It involves removing the windshield so that's probably why not many try it. I believe the WaveFront system actually uses 6.5" JL speakers beneath the dash and then there is the cutout and cover for what you actually see on the dash. The additional IB sub on the driver side has been added by a few as well. I haven't personally looked at the area in front of the helm but it appears difficult to get to in order to cut the hole for the subwoofer.Originally posted by erockyoulikea View PostI'm currently in the market for a 2016-2018 G23 and one of my desired features is the Elite sound system with the WaveFront speakers and additional sub. This was a requirement when we got the most recent G, had to have the elite. Mostly it was for the subs since they have enough bass for our needs and didn't want to do much, if any, audio work this time. With the existing tower amp was able to throw up the wetsounds without changing anything.
As far as the dash speakers I think it really helps to have independent tone control on that channel, I don't think we had it with the polk system on the 17 but with the JL retrofit I tweaked them and it balanced things out nicely.
If we absolutely had to compromise on the studio elite I would only have added the sub(s). Can definitely live without the wavefront, its just a nice to have.

I’ve added the sub in the starboard side in 2 of my boats. It’s not a terribly difficult job if you are handy. I used a rotozip with the circle attachment.
