Wiring my PDX 4.150

Well, I broker down and bought one for my tower speakers. The way my system is wired, I only have two sets of wires running to the B-530's: one for the right and one for the left. Accordingly, I am figuring that I should probably bridge the amp to two 300 watt outputs. I'll be running this off the rear RCA output from the deck. Anyone want to fill me in on how to properly wire this thing? How about tuning? I am figuring that I should set both channels to High Pass Mode, at around 150hz. How about the gain and input channel? Here is a pic of the front and rear of the amp. Sorry for sounding so confused but I want to make sure that I get this right the first time!

input channel switch to 1/2
put positive from left speak into the positive side of the connector for CH1 on amp, negative from left speaker to negative side of connector for CH2, right + CH 3 right - CH4.
I have my gain set at 0.5v, and should probably have it a little higher.
set filter on HP, I have my crossover I think at like 120.

I think you are going to want to be a bit careful initially, cause you are bridging the amp and will get a ton of power out of it, versus how I have mine hooked up.

I still need to fiddle with mine a bit. I run my tower and sub off a 4.150, and now, recently, my boat speakers off of a 4.100.

I have this amp wired to two tower speakers and the previous post does a pretty good job with the wiring connectors. I have the gain just short of the max, definitely using HP filter, and my crossovers set around 160. I also hooked up this amp to the non-fader input on my Clarion CMD5 so I can turn up/down the tower speakers output separately from the boat speakers. I wouldn't recommend hooking up a sub to this amp like wakeslayer did

as far as tuning goes, set your head unit to flat, everything at 0. unhook everything and just do each at a time by plugging in that speaker's rca, like Left tower, right tower, and same with in boat speakers. set your frequency around 100, and much lower for your sub if you have one. anyway, with the gain all the way down and the head unit volume about 5 levels below it's max, slowly turn the gain up until you hear distortion, and then back off. if it starts to cut out turn it back also. i'm not too savvy with frequency adjustments and roll off and what not so you might want to ask someone who knows or look around on the search engines. you want to be between 80-120 for you mid's and highs and i'm not sure how much you go down according to what you set that at for your sub, but anywhere from 30-60 i'd say. and use a song you know pretty well that hits alot of different kinds of notes i hope this makes sense

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!!. I just picked up a PDX 4.100 for the interior speakers so I am all set up. I'll tune on Friday and let you know how it goes. I just went for about 600 watts to 1750 watts so it should make quite a difference. I think I was definitely underpowering the speakers before. Maybe that will explain why they kept cutting out at volume.

they keep cutting out at volume because the amp is pushing too hard. It's unable to keep up, or the ohms are dropping too low. your solution should help. You want your crossover set around the same frequency for each channel, about 100hz. Just make your high side allow highs, and defeat lows, vice versa for your sub. You want your sub to start picking up where your mids leave off. Most mid's can go to 40hz, but they are not efficient there. Leave that to the sub, which is omnidirectional anyway, and should transmit throughout the boat, and does a better job at what it was designed for. (imagine that~!! The crossover points are rolloffs, so you'll start dropping sound after that point, they're not fixed that everything below there is zero, it's just quieter and quieter. that should work out pretty well, and I hope it helps!

It did help. I hooked up both amps last weekend and did some preliminary tuning (will do more this coming weekend) and I was able to turn up the volume all the way without the speakers cutting out. Granted, I couldn't hear myself think but that's a GREAT thing, right? The speakers sounded better than they ever have before so my investment was well spent.

YEE-HAW!!! I couldn't agree more. I know some people don't like really loud music, but then again, I can't really hear them complain either!!! I just can't imagine not having a sound system to get 'er done. There really is nothing better than charging out to flat water listening to some of your favorite music... it's a thing of beauty.

i agree that a loud, nicely tuned system is a must in your boat or car.
