Greetings Gang!!
I hope this finds you and yours well!! As some of you might know, I just traded in my "brand new" 02 196 for a new 07 196 L about 3 weeks ago. Why?? I haven't a clue!! Yellow_Flash_Colorz: Long story short, SECC wanted my 02 bad, and I stole the 07. I mean stole it.
Thoughts and observations!!
In 1980 a good friend of mine taught me to ski behind his MINT 1978 Ski Tique with a Ford 302. What a great boat, and great sound. I was up on 2 skis on the second pull. About an hour later I was dropping one and staying up with no problem. I was crossing the wakes very soon after that, and by 2 pm, I was deep water starting on an O'Brien slalom, and have been hooked ever since.
I swore I would never own anything but a Nautique. I never have. This makes my 6th new SN. If I had learned to ski behind a MC, would I have been a loyal MC owner? We'll NEVER know!! Yellow_Flash_Colorz:
In 02, before I bought my 02 SN, Tracy and I took a ride over to Ocala to the BU dealer, just to see what the comp had to offer, just for chits and giggles. When we got there, no sales rep was readily available, so we climbed into a Response LX. I sat in the drivers seat, and instantly felt confined by the wrap around windshield. The top of the windshield was directly in my line of sight, and I'm only 5'10".
There were exposed screw heads everywhere. On the dash, all over the place. We left, and that was that. The next day, I had bought my 5th SN 196.
On the 07-- The DTC from forward idle to slightly forward, isn't as responsive as the old cable system IMVHO. Once at speed, she's fine. The PP, as always, is a big fat grin.
Dislikes, hhmmmmm........well I kinda miss the touch release trunk feature, but no biggie. The one thing I don't like, is I can just barely fit my hand down inside the engine to wipe down the bilge like I do after every outing. It's much more confined than the space around my 02 Ex 330.
The only problem I have EVER had with all of my SN's, is a tach that was replaced on my 02 under warranty. That's it!! Lucky??! Maybe, but I feel quality played out through and through. I hope my 07 gives me the same service as the past SN's.
I feel proud, and blessed to own a SN. Heck, I even get a kick outta towing it to and from the lake. Just watching the rubber necks trying to get a look. And the stop lights!!! I'm watching them looking. :mrgreen:
Got some engine detail work to do. I'll post pics when I'm done!
