2003 SANTE - First Nautique, sort of

I've had a lot of time in various friends' Nautiques, and even convinced people to buy them; I've had free and open access to several, but yet never actually owned one. I've had an older Supra direct drive for the past 12 years while I've been squirreling away money and taking good care of the Supra, waiting for the right boat to come around.

Every time my wife asks me, "need anything from the store?" or if she asks what I want for my birthday or something, I invariably say, "hmm, a Super Air Nautique?" just as a joke.... but not really a joke.

Today, I bought (well, I still have to pay and pick it up...) on a nice 2003 SANTE. It's been well cared for, but it's not a garage queen. It's got an unusual gel coat color scheme, in that the cap is the same color as most of the hull; that's great except for the inevitable fading that comes with a colored gel coat facing the sun all the time. Overall, though, the boat is great, and I really like the colors despite the endless fading that I'll be chasing; I've also never seen another one in these colors. I'm sure my family will love it for many years to come.

I also worked at a marina for 8 years, and I've been in and out of thousands of boats in various conditions. There's nothing like a Nautique. I will say MasterCrafts are well made, I just don't like the style as much; they are good boats, though. However, if I could go out and buy literally any boat for my family, it would be a 2003 SANTE. So that's what we did. I wanted a vdrive Nautique with a tower, bimini, heater, and a good stereo; ballast was a bonus but also on the list I guess. This boat checked every single box.

I've read countless threads on this forum in the past just out of general interest, and I can't wait to learn more and contribute something of my own.

This boat needs a little cleaning and a little buffing, but that's about it. Mechanically, it's all sorted. Can't wait to pick it up this weekend and take the family out.

New Hampshire... hard to find examples up here; a lot get sold word of mouth and there just aren't as many as there are in, say, Florida

      Edited to include Florida haha

Thanks, and yeah. I've been looking on and off for 10 years, no exaggeration. Of course 10 years ago I couldn't afford an '03. There's a similar '05 on my lake that I've drooled over since I first saw it in '05, and I can't believe I have one now. Better colors, even.

The boats in New England have the advantage of typically being used only for 3 months of the year, but then the prices are higher. You basically have to be lucky, or prepared, or both. But luck favors the prepared, right? Something like that.

On Sunday I lost my cell phone; it literally fell off my truck on the side of the road *somewhere* and amazingly, a neighbor found it, picked it up, and I got it back the next day completely unscathed. With that amazing bit of luck, it was a good start to the week. The boat working out... it can really only get better if I sell my old boat by Friday.

Thanks, yeah... aside from being the exact boat I wanted, the colors helped push me into buying it now, when I really wasn't quite ready. I was only half ready. But I couldn't let it slip by.

Thanks! I am hoping to get some time to work on the gelcoat this weekend, but with two little kids running around, it's rather difficult. I have lots of experience with color restoration in faded fiberglass, though, so when I do find the time, this thing will look amazing.

Great boat, great colors. I know what you mean by squirreling money away to buy a Nautique. That's what I did and even though it was a boat load of money, I've never regretted buying mine. Nothing is better for making family memories.

Thanks! I coach nordic ski jumping in the winter and I just put my meager salary for that aside each year because it's not something I count as my normal income. Thus began The Boat Fund. If it weren't for that, I'd never be buying a boat of any sort with kids @ 2 and 4, with all the associated costs. They're now just barely old enough to really enjoy the boat, so I hope they'll latch onto our new one. It will certainly be quieter than my '89 Supra ever was, which should be a positive for them.

And I've been around so many boats that I wouldn't have settled for anything but a Correct Craft. I know I won't regret the purchase.

Congrats! I am basically in the same position. Found the same boat but the direct drive 206! Wanted the direct drive for a few reasons. The color scheme is even the same. 350 hours. Been waiting YEARS and kids are finally big enough to enjoy it. Picking up Friday and surprising my kids (been teaching them behind a seadoo) so I'm SUPER excited!
